PORTAL 2 Yay

Luckly it's just things that have no impact on the game.

As long as this is true, I'm good. Or will be once Portal 2 get's cheaper. So, what are the firsts impressions on the game?

I'm about 1/2 way through so far but overall very good. The early chambers shouldn't leave you wondering how to finish them and you see a few familiar areas. There is a lot of back story hidden around as you pass through the game if you don't rush past it all. The cast of characters so far has been great. Oh yes, there was a reason for all the potatoes in the run up to this but I'll leave that until people see it for themselves.

Keeps the nuttiness found in the previous game, although mostly in dialog and other forms of humor, while the main focus is on the awesome storytelling. Analysis with spoilers ahoy!

Putting GLaDOS in a potato is incredibly humorous; she is then carried around by the player for almost the entirety of the rest of the game, attached to the portal gun. The character development of all the characters is quite good; GLaDOS goes from what she previously was to an entity who is revealed to have originally been human. Aperture science; and in particular the head of the company, is revealed as quite the character, and nearly his entire life story and that of his company is revealed while climbing through the chronologically ordered rooms of yesteryear. Then there is the little british bot you meet early on. His character development is quite interesting as well, as it demonstrates the effect of the programming in the GLaDOS body upon the AI module applied to it. Little touches like the sentient friendly turret you can rescue from the turret recycler (who even gives you interesting story info before it is revealed by the offices of the past, namely that GLaDOS had a name once) really put this game well above the level of Portal 1. Tons of awesome lines from all characters. IM IN SPACE.

As for the ending; played just fine for me.

PORTAL 2 STATUS: Single-player campaign completed in one overnight play session of 7.6 hours. Now to grab some sleep before class.

I had a bunch of fun playing this. I mostly just blasted through it, but I'll probably go back and get all the achievements you don't get just for playing.

I'll be down for some co-op later today, as I am exhausted. Humans vs. Zombies mission + overnight play session = exhausted.

I'm a bit saddened by how Wheatley changes from a helpful and friendly little guy to a homicidal, vindictive maniac. I know that part of it is due to the GLaDOS body, buuuuut still. Unexpected and it made me sad. Also, the loading screens are very interesting one you delve into the sealed Testing Facility - it's a cool thing to see how the Aperture Science logo changes over the years. I also liked how Cave Johnson's recorded VO was kinda silly at times, but it still showed how the person changed as each testing area was made and so on.

I'm looking forward to playing the co-op campaign and seeing what GLaDOS has in store for us.

Also: POTaDOS is fucking hilarious.
