So you mean it took him 1 week to achieve something securom has been doing for years?

I really have no idea what you're trying to say here.

I'm not that bothered, I only use cheat engine sometimes. Although this seems to be an odd way of preventing it...

He just took a piss on anyone who's ever installed cheat engine for the hell of it. He didn't actually do anything to stop hacking, he just made it less publicly accessible.
... securom is DRM, not anti-hacking crap, isn't it?

I could post the workaround in .bat form, but I don't want to be banned for posting hacks. PM me if you want to leave cheat engine installed but want to play Ace of Spades without hacking.

EDIT: In other news, there's an actual website in place of the server list now!

EDIT2: Oh, greeeaaaat... he's adding a reputation system instead of griefer prevention. Also:

And the fun of being a free inpedendent developer is I can do whatever scans I want and ban whoever.

Oh, don't be so cynical :P I'm sure the rep system isn't the only anti-grief precaution he's taking.

Oh Gods. Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the trenches...
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I take back everything I said about the game being hack-free now.
Curses.

...

It looks like someone hacked the memory for the game map.

Do you know what  actually happened, or did you just leave the server?

I was thinking they could just autokick people who posted position updates to the server greater than a certain speed. People who posted more than four grenades without getting a if(distanceToOutpost[playerNum] > outpostRadius) {resetNadeCounter(playerNum);};

Antiblocking might be a tiny bit harder. Additionally, its all information that seems like it would be passed to the server anyways, so it shouldnt increase bandwidth requirements. It would increase server processing overhead a little though.

This is why you don't trust clients.

It's really a simple premise: The client doesn't do anything besides turn user commands into a low-bandwidth shorthand and display the results. The server decides whether or not to allow that request. Otherwise you might as well not even bother with coding inventory and ask users to please use no more than three grenades (or whatever) per life.

His crappy attempts at anti-hacking has made me lose interest in the game.

I have cheat engine on my computer for other reasons (occasionally goofing around with various single player games), so now I would have to uninstall it just to play? I think I'll just uninstall this game instead.

I mean, if it actually stopped hacking it would be a different story - but it obviously will not. What really needs to be done is server side tracking of this stuff, so people can't just edit a memory value to get limitless health, ammo, grenades, etc. Blocking people who happen to have a program installed which is intended solely for modifying single player games is just silly. The fact his game is even vulnerable to a memory editor intended for single player games is a sign of poor design.
