Bands of elf bone?
« on: March 20, 2011, 05:02:46 am »

My mason just created this armor stand:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
It is encircled with elf bone! Obviously this is my best artifact ever but is this supposed to happen? I though Dwarven ethics prevented this from happening...

I would assume it's waived/not checked for artifacts, but I'm not sure.

Also, "moon monster" could be anything, like a werewolf or a moonbeast.

I dunno, a "Moon Monster Spouse" sounds pretty scary to me.

Ethics are put on hold while artifacts are being built.

If there's a usable bone, the mooder won't care about its source.

If there's a usable bone, the mooder won't care about its source.
Specifically, dismembered limbs seem to have a chance of rotting directly into usable bones.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

That is, until you consider that being the only description the dwarf was capable of comprehending, we can conclude that what the dwarf is trying to depict is a cosmic eldritch abomination from beyond the stars.

Who cares? The image is depicting the death of an elf. That's enough for me.

It's treated as completely normal because this is Dwarf Fortress.  There's absolutely nothing wrong with surrounding yourself with a wall of flames, only to later realize that you're surrounded by a wall of flames.
There's nothing that can't be solved by hurling fifteen roc birds at it.

Dwarves have no qualms about *using* elf bones, they just refuse to butcher elves to get the bones.  But if a severed limb rots, the bone is fair game.

You could have berries on the rocks and the dwarves would say it was "berry gneiss."
You should die horribly for this. And I mean that in the nicest possible way.
