CCP does seem more focused on community and small helping.  I've heard when a corp (or two) is planning a fight or an invasion, they can inform CCP and they'll dedicate a shard to the warzone so they can be sure that they won't get any server-side lag or problems.

For anyone new who's thinking about mining, better get familiar with this:  http://www.minerbumping.com/p/the-code.html.  They are running a competition for both ganking alpha clones and alpha clones that gank (http://www.minerbumping.com/2016/11/ascension-ganking-event.html) until the end of the year.  Personally I think they're great, probably the best RPing group in any game I've ever seen, but depending on your inclination you might want to make sure you're not a target for them.

I think by white-space he means everyone is a neutral so he can't re-dock in the station.

Ugh, I despise those people who focus on miner ganking. Especially the ones who go out of their way to mess with miners in hi-sec. RPing or not they are making it their mission to ruin other people's day for their own amusement.

I find it a difficult one really. There's a line between 'being a pirate' and just griefing people. The problem with the miner ganking thing, is that it'd be alright if there was some way you could defend yourself - either by paying people to protect your ship or something, but it's basically just 'if you get caught that's it.'

More than that, it'd be fine if there were any proper repercussions for those doing the ganking.

I think that's what the "indulgences" are for. You pay them and they agree not to gank you, but of course it doesn't guarantee you won't be ganked. It's basically just mafioso behavior disguised by "RP".

Clearly we should form a Concord Volunteer Militia to defend the high-sec miners from these criminals. For a price, of course.

It requires money that high-sec miners can't provide. Ganking noobs is much funnier to rich people.
Also, I'm not sure but naming yourself Concord Volunteer Militia wouldn't help a thing when it comes to Concord coming and beating your ass.

EDIT:
I mean, only thing you could do is to respond and if someone already ganks people in high-sec, you proably aren't really good enough to save people by responding. Actual Concord is much better at this.

The only thing you could really do is gank them before they gank the miner, but that's assuming they give any sign at all about what they're about to do, and if they're planning on suicide ganking it's not going to really damage them in any tangible way aside from making them angry over stopping them, and you can't wardec them because they're not part of a corp.

So basically there's nothing you can do about it.

That's the problem. Easy to be the bad guy, hard to be the good guy. But, tbh, I don't see a way to have more chances to be good guy without leaving the system weak to possible exploitation.

Eh, one could try hitting the victim with some logi, but who wants to spend time on such a thankless task?

Besides, gankers tend to congregate along the trade routes*. If one wants to molest rocks in peace, find a constellation off the beaten path and it'll be relatively safeish.

*Something I've noticed, regarding the dangerous Uedama-Sivela gate, is that the nearby low sec system of Kubinen (which connects to both systems) is almost always empty (as are the other two low systems in that constellation).

More than that, it'd be fine if there were any proper repercussions for those doing the ganking.

Several easy counters include.

1. Tanking your ship properly.

2. Jamming them out the moment they aggress.

3. Using an alt to gank them first or having a mate do it.

4. Paying them off.

5. Doing something else (I mean really, hisec mining earns so little you're essentially setting yourself up as a space peasant).

6. Mining somewhere quieter, the vast majority of these ganks happen along major trade routes.

7. Warping off when an obvious ganking ship appears on short range d-scan.

8. Turning the tables on them.  Lay out some juicy looking bait and kill them when they attack it.

9. Mining in mission sites rather than anomalies.  The vast majority of gankers won't bother to probe people down, and even if they do then the probes give you loads of advance warning.

10. Hiring a group to keep them busy.

11. Using logi to repair the incoming damage until Concord shows up.

That's far from an exclusive list of the options available.  The actual issue IMO is that many people are quick to fall into a victim mentality instead of actually taking steps to improve their situation.  "Oh no they blew up my ship, this is terrible.  Better keep doing the exact same thing in the exact same way!"
