After finishing the tutorials and roaming around for some hours, i said to myself, ill do some exploring. Fit my probe with some rigs and the first (hard to catch) anomaly y find is a combat sign its an Angel Virgil one, after a quick google search they recomend a BattleCruiser so its way over my league, i forget it and try my luch in a WH in the same system. It was a "Sleeper Whormhole" filled with mysterious ships that one shotted my from 60km distance. I think ill leave wormholes for later.

What do you mean by every wormhole? All of them have sleepers?I knew i was going to die, i just didnt knew it was going to be so fast. One anomaly was certain death becouse of the Battlecruiser recomendation, i just chose to die doing something new.

Exploration is only really viable with a group, honestly.  You can find interesting things, but they're only interesting to groups with the proper tools to utilize them.

I found a data site with 600 000 isk worth of loot in it and no hostiles. That's the only one I've found though, avoided the combat sites and wormholes.

One small bonus to gallente for alpha toons: the starting frigate has (or used to, last I plated)  the standard two turret hardpoints and room for a single small drone, which iirc offers about as much damage output as a basic small turret. You'd have to buy an extra turret + ammunition and a drone, but other than that you get a free t1 frigate with "three" turrets, as oppose to other factions' two for their starting frigates.

You can have basic drone operation skills on these alpha accounts, right?

nah, some wormholes (C1-3) have non-guarded data/relic sites that can be just hacked for money.

Unguarded, Frontier, Forgotten, Abandoned etc are sleeper sites that will murder you.

Sansha, Guristas, Blood, Angel, Serpentis etc are pirate sites that will not murder you.

Exception: Covert Research Facilities will murder you. (cans explode if you fail and kill you, if you stay too long pirates arrive and explode the cans to kill you)

Sleeper Caches will murder you. (they're intricate puzzleboxes where the ante is your ship)

I disagree about as strongly as is possible.

Pirate Relic sites in null/w-space are pretty much the best possible earner for a new player.

Yesterday over the course of about six hours in w-space, I found nine relic sites and two data sites, and earned a total of roughly 380M. That's 60M/h! That said, I had exceptionally good luck in finding Sansha relics, and I do have Archeo V and an astero, so a newbie explorer would probably have more like 20M/h, but that's still pretty decent.

So I've always wanted to give EVE a go but the subscription model always kept me from doing so.

I guess with the new clone state system I dont really have an excuse not to give it a go anymore. If I understand correctly its possible for an Alpha clone to become an Omega clone right?

I could test the waters as alpha and play through the content available to them and if it really hooks me deep I'd still have the option to go Omega with that character?
(could I also obtain Plex by some weird twist of fate and use it as an Alpha?)

Anyway if anybody has some starting tips I'd love to hear them.
I'm thinking I'll pick up the EVE Online - Core starter pack on steam, its currently on sale for 5 Euros (75% discount)

Edit: are there other limitations to the Steam core starter pack? like... could I use external giftcards for plex if I ever felt so inclined (the external cards seem cheaper than the option offered in steam directly)

My exploration skills are within the bounds of what alphas can train, Skyrunner's figure is actually a bit on the low side once you know what you're doing.

To be fair, of those 6 hours i spent one or two on poking around FW low-sec and picking up a kill as well as looting the battlesite between two big groups of people with BSes.

Yeah, you can upgrade to omega whenever you like. It's very doubtful you'd ever make enough in game to buy PLEX with the alpha skill sets. I've got to say, when I started (when it still used to be a month free instead of alphas) I believed that I'd be the exception and make enough, but never got even close.

I just had a play for a few hours last night with an alpha account with an old character. I have to say, it's pretty limited - not being able to use things such as salvage drones and the like is a bit annoying. It basically limits you to very straight forward play styles - good for getting a feel of 'what Eve is' - but a bit limiting for really finding your niche.  Probably how it should be, but I think finding that 'niche' is the main attraction in eve.

As a person who done it once (and promptly stopped after since it was the main challenge for me), I must say that it was way, way easier long time ago, I couldn't do it any of the three times I tried again later. PLEX prices have raised a lot and I can only suspect that with F2P they are even higher.
