I downloaded and got going.  Free accounts are rather heavily restricted, but that's not unexpected.  Safe space is as uneventfully productive as normal, haven't ventured outwards yet.

Well, it turns out that these Alpha Clones have even less skills available to them than the trial accounts, so I guess they REALLY want people to upgrade to a real account.  Also I prefer the previous autopilot voice, but eh.

Also yea I'm interested in having our own Corp.

We will be... the Veldspar Dwarves! Thats us, and we rule!

Because you know its alot of mining and maybe ratting with us.

Thinking of redownloading and starting a new f2p account.
Hmm... we'll probably need a real account to actually own the corp since they can research all the corp skills and stuff.

Just made my first 1 million ISK, boy do I have a loooooong way to go.

I have a PLEX sitting in my hanger thanks to the premium pack, but I can't sell it at a reasonable rate at the moment due to lacking the funds for the taxes. Really hope none of the other new pilots haven't fallen for the large number of way-below-value buy orders that seem to sit at the starter stations.

just hold on to your plex for now. having so much money in your hands will only tempt you into making yourself a shiny target.
you wont neither have the skills nor the expirience to fly a blinged out ship effectively, and you wont see big benefits from doing it anyway.

Remember not to move your PLEX around :P

If you sell your plex at a citadel (such as one in Perimeter that is called "(crown) Trade Hub") you only need to pay sales tax so you should probably go do that. Remember to set the range to 1 jump.

I got my exploration ship to find a site, went to it, EVE crashed.  On my VERY high-end computer.  After like 25 minutes I managed to get back on, because it refused to even die, and then my ship was gone and I was in a pod.  So GG.

Also saw someone post a screenshot of getting killed and lose 23 PLEX.  Don't fly with them.

If you can't afford to replace it ten times over, don't take it out of the hangar.

That said, while I was playing a trial account I bought a skill book for like 1/2 the usual price in a low-sec system. Hopped in a shuttle and evaded the gate campers (they were trying to lock on when I jumped in, followed me to the station and tried to lock on when I undocked, i assume they intended to kill me) both going in and going out. I appreciate their frustration.

I really want to get back into this game and dink around now. I miss it.

If one isn't up by the time I reach that point, I'll start one.  But I don't have the cash for plex so I'm probably a poor candidate...

I went Amarr, but I don't think it matters a great deal what you choose.  Just know that different races have different ship specialties.  Amarr ships will have more armor than any other race's, for instance...

I'd suggest anyone intending to stick to a free account pick either Caldari or Gallente.  I'll c/p a thing I posted on Reddit to explain why.

It's not that Caldari and Gallente are inherently better, I recommend them because in the current meta they likely have the most impactful lineup of t1 frigs to cruisers.

Caldari offer the Caracal which is currently used by many alliances as the t1 cruiser of choice, and what is probably the most effective t1 ewar frigate in the game (Griffin).  The Moa is also a pretty great cruiser, and cormorants are fun destroyers that are great at sniping.  They generally focus on shield tank and missiles, with a few gunships too.

Gallente have the Vexor and Tristan which are both phenomenal ships for their price and really quite powerful in the current meta. They focus on armour tank (many ships can be shield tanked though) and drones/guns.

Minmatar have a fantastic lineup, but aren't the easiest ships to pilot and are generally considered subpar for PvE. Not what I'd recommend for a beginner.  Their t1 frigs and cruisers are pretty subpar, although they do have nice destroyers.  Unfortunately t1 destroyers in general aren't in a great place right now. They mainly focus on guns and speed but have a fair bit of versatility (not necessarily a good thing as a low SP player).

Amarr have some pretty great ships too, but IMO they only really start to shine in their t2 and t3 lineups which alpha clones don't have access to. They use lasers as their primary weapon type, which burn through capacitor (space mana) really fast, making them a not so great choice at low SP, and they're pretty reliant on t2 ammo.  They are typically slow and armour tanked.

tl;dr Gal/Cal have better t1 small ships.

I think iŽll go back to my roots.
I go Caldari since i guess the limitations for Gallente + drones are too heavy.
Also Caldari has cool story as faction :)

Yes, think that's what's going to happen. i'm too afraid of putting the PLEX in my ship and someone deciding to explode me just for the 'lulz' or getting lucky with the loot fairy and getting my sweet sweet plex.

So for now I'll play through the career agents and get the plethora of tiny ships they offer. Jut got my Tristan last night :)

Now to figure out a good skillplan/fit. Drones 4 should be done today, think I'll want to dive into cloaking 4 next so I can fit a cloak at some point for exploration safety, but I imagine I'm a ways off for the t2 sneaky frigates.
