Yup, it was fixed. Managed to nab it almost right before it was fixed.

Path of Exile? Neither FPS nor MMO, instead a pretty decent action-rpg (think Diablo) with a few unique ideas. There is no gold, and skills are gained by looting gems which can be inserted into equipment and combined with others.
There is a skill tree one can level up in, but it only contains passive talents (and is HUGE).

There is an ingame shop, but the only non-cosmetic item in there I've found is additional stash space, quite non-intrusive.

This. I don't even really care for Diablo and I enjoyed this game. Lots of customization and there's some amount of strategy involved that isn't just spamming right click.

There's also some sort of point-and-click adventure game called Heroine's Quest: The Herald of Ragnarok. Totally free. Looks a bit like those old Sierra games. Voice acting too.

Oh man, The Lost Vikings... I played the Gameboy port of it. A lot.
