Played about 30 minutes of the demo. Stopped playing and uninstalled because I hadn't gotten anywhere in the last 10-15. Not recommended from me.

I've found that Rogue Legacy makes you want to chuck your computer across the room, especially if you play without a controller. I enjoyed the three sporadic hours I put into the game. I'll load it up when I'm too tired to play something like X-Com.

I played Rogue Legacy with a controller. Super enjoyable. The problem is that there's a hurdle you have to get over after a certain period of time. I'm not sure what it was about it, but I just wasn't getting enough money! And then, I finally beat the hurdle, and lo and behold, I can start buying things again!

After playing through Bleed in an hour or two I'd recommend it. Only $3 USD on sale, but it's still pretty cheap off sale at $5. Pretty fun once you get used to the different controls and its nintendo-hard playstyle. It's basically a bullet hell meets Contra but with a slow-motion "bullet-time" mechanic that works really well once you get used to it.

Can be pretty frustrating though if you don't use bullet-time. Also can be incredibly satisfying once you beat that boss you've just died to fifty times in a row. Death is minimal penalty though. Fun for a challenge and easy to pick up and play and stop.

If you do get Bleed, use a controller. Srsly. This is like Super Meat Boy-controllers-are-awesome levels of essential.

downloading the demo for Rogue Legacy now. kinda annoying they didn't include the demo on Steam, I wouldn't have known about it if no one mentioned it.

I've been getting on really well with Rogue Legacy. On the topic of scaling I think it does at least a little as some of the trickier enemies started appearing in the first area after I'd unlocked a load of stuff.

I had a few hours fun with Bleed.  The difficulty is purely optional, as dying just restores your health and sets you back (and the levels are pretty short, with checkpoints.  Pretty neat selection of weapons, including a katana that deflects bullets with good timing.  The cartoony premise was cheap but pretty funny to me.  There's actually quite a bit of replay value in the different weapons, attempting to die less, and customizable multi-boss challenge mode.

I like how the list of greenlit games shows which ones you voted for. I wouldn't have recognized some of them by the title alone.

Also, have a shameless plug.

I liked Rogue Legacy, but it's kind of short. Took me 25 hours to beat it through New Game++ and I sucked pretty bad at it.

Felt like a combination of Metroidvania (circa SNES) and Megaman. There were some aspects to it that I thought could make the game deeper and more fun if they were expanded (I would have liked to have seen, for example, a greater variety of metroid-esque abilities and megaman-esque special attacks, and more exploration) but overall I was satisfied.

I forget how much I paid for it, though. I think it was 75% off at the time.

I'm not sure what it was about it, but I just wasn't getting enough money! And then, I finally beat the hurdle, and lo and behold, I can start buying things again!

I had that problem too, and I tried to fight it by buying Gold Gain Up, but I think that was a bad idea because each upgrade you buy increases the cost of everything else, and Gold Gain Up is very expensive. I basically wasted a lot of lives because I couldn't buy the next tier of GGU. I recommend instead unlocking better classes like the Shinobi and trying to complete "deeper" sections of the castle, like the forest and tower, instead of trying to be meticulous in clearing every room looking for chests.

.

As far as that current Greenlight sale, I guess I will get Gnomoria, despite how much I prefer DF (or more accurately, the Masterwork mod). Anyone have other suggestions? I don't want to have to investigate everything but it's hard to go through the list and guess on what might be good based purely on price and a thumbnail.

Rogue Legacy is heavily skill based. You can buy things but the monsters also level up as you buy things. It turns into having the patience and skill to beat super meat boy.

The monsters don't level up as you buy things, this information is wrong. I got the game and played almost 50 hours of it, they don't scale.

EDIT: game is amazing. Really. I thoroughly recommend it.

Ah true only the bosses scale, whoops.

I think I'll get Hammerwatch as well, which looks like a simple 2D pixel-graphics ARPG, and Bleed.

Debating Kinetic Void, a space sim still in development which didn't show much beyond the ability to plug your own ships together.

Also considering Inquistor, which looks an isometric ARPG with Baldur's Gate 1 era graphics and maybe a bit heavier (if standard) story.

Hotline Miami is the weekend deal.  US$2.49 which is 75% off.

I got it as part of Humble Bundle 8, and really enjoyed it.  Very polished twitch gaming.

The Soundtrack is also Two-fiddy.  Don't buy it, you get it with the game.  Unencrypted 250Kbps 4kHz .ogg files.  Just look in Steam's game folder.  What are they trying to pull here?

Edit: 44kHz, not 4kHz.

What do you guys think of La Mulana? I'm considering getting it while it's on sale. I know the reviews are good, but what's the general opinion? Is it actually fun?

Edit: Decided to go with Bleed instead. Cheaper, and probably less frustrating. :P

La Mulana is frankly fantastic, but it requires you to shed all modern concepts of how to approach a game.

It was designed entirely to be a throwback to MSX era games, especially Maze of Galious, and brings with it the oldschool action adventure style of multiple screen spanning puzzles, cryptic clues that need to be deciphered and examined, and a difficulty curve that doesn't accommodate for trying to brute force your way through.
As the devs themselves put it, you are playing a game about an archeologist; You should approach the traps and puzzles like how an archeologist would. Take notes, view things carefully before trying to solve them or move forward, and not just jump into every pit you see because you are used to that working in games.
The solution to everything is written on a tablet, scrawled on a note held by a corpse, or can be solved by observation. It only seems unfair if you are doing something wrong.

So I have a dilemma. Metro: Last Light is on sale for $20, and I have $40 in XBL money codes I'd like to trade for that and a copy of AoE2 HD.

Any takers?
