Adult Cartoons
« on: March 14, 2011, 09:21:58 pm »

Well, my soon to be wife would love it if I never watched another one since the voices annoy her, but I'm a lifer it seems. I devour the obvious ones constantly:

Simpsons
Family Guy
Bob's Burgers
Futurama
Robot Chicken
Superjail
Drink Crow
Sealab

What else am I missing?

Batman the Animated Series

It is excellent too.

Though how are you defining "Adult Cartoons" anyway?

I mean... The Simpsons are more what I'd call "Family" then "Adult" and "Robot Chicken" isn't a Cartoon.

I'd hardly count "Robot Chicken" as any meaning of the term "adult", but regardless:

It depends on what you want. Animation is an incredibly diverse medium. Family Guy and Aeon Flux, for instance, aren't even in the same ballpark or genre. So it's a really damn hard question to answer.

As well there are plenty of Cartoons out there that easily appeal to adults as well as children without losing anything for it or being childish in anyway such as Justice League.

It falls under the same definition of Adult as "Mature" does for videogames. As in "You wouldn't want anyone younger then an adult to watch it"

Though I've long since stopped liking Robot Chicken ever since one of my favorite stations started saturating its airways with it. 3 Robot Chicken episodes in a row for a week is enough to kill ANYTHING I would have liked in it (though I never liked it too much anyway)

Well there is the vast majority of anime ever made. And trust me, for a lot of it, if you think it was for kids, you were watching the english version.

It is more that there is a LOT that Japanese Children and Teenagers are allowed to see

For example in Magic Pengel a game for little kids there is a woman with giant breasts who gets around with a pogostick. As well one of the main characters is shot and lies in a pool of blood.

To my knowledge the Japanese Anime market is more focused on teens and children then adults.

I mean even Sailormoon when Women start sucking people's souls out with their breasts... it wasn't for adults.

Stuff produced for kids in Japan adheres to different standards. Things censored heavily in the US (compared to the original Japanese) are still often produced for kids. See: Dragon Ball Z, which I sincerely doubt was ever intended as serious adult entertainment. The demographics and standards are just different over there, and can't be compared all that easily. For instance, you have stuff very much geared towards the otaku (read: nerdy loser shut-in) market, and the creepy-older-guy market as well.

I was going to mention anime but I'll just mention King of the Hill instead. It's in a similar vein to the first four in your list but less unrealistic. It's kind of dry but I enjoy it every now and again. Mike Judge, one of the creators, did other similar stuff including Beavis and Butt-head. You might enjoy Daria too. It's a spin-off from Beavis and Butt-head but more serious and well praised for its storytelling.

American Dad.

I don't care for it, but you might like South Park.

Ugly Americans is also surprisingly good, but it's only a handful of episodes and you'd probably have to find them online.

As noted, there's anime to fill just about any preferences you have. Excel Saga is more traditionally a "cartoon" in terms of being slapstick comedy, but I have no idea if it's good or not.

I did too but then I saw the post number.

If it was an actual life advice topic asking about pornographic cartoons it would have had a LOT more posts.

Invader Zim might count?  It had an episode with organ harvesting so I think it should count.
