Or if you're going down the cutscene route, there's computer generated movies.

I guess there could be a game where the storyline is the main focus but the gameplay contributes to it in a meaningful way.  Can't think of any, though...
I guess there's games like Facade. But I don't know if I'd recommend that to someone.

Facade is basically 'A really awkward night at a friend's house:The Video Game'

Seriously, there's no way to /prevent/ a fight. No matter what subject they start on, it always ends up incredibly awkward for the poor player avatar
