Conclusion for TTS's easymode, on a sprint for cash before the aliens dry up my country supplies, is that it's possible. It took quite some time, as in mid feb, but still.

Do you possibly mean the Football of Powah?

Nah, UFO Extender heavy laser.  High damage * 8 shots = daaamn.  Sure they won't all hit, but if you want to take down multiple targets, it's pretty nice.  Mostly it's god tier if you have three guys facing you at close range.  If you shoot one, the others will reaction fire you, and autofire won't let you split your targets, so you use the heavy laser to target them ALL.  (Especially important when fighting near elerium...though really, I guess a stun bomb or incendiary rocket would do the trick just fine, too)

Mind, it's pretty bad in many situations, and you basically NEED a sidearm...a really, really big sidearm since you'll be using it a lot, and it really kills your mobility...but still!  (And I guess everything taking 80% TUs is a sufficient downside, really.)

Is it multiple LoS targets like Burst, or like a laser football?

You place two waypoints and it sweeps the area between them, I believe.

Edit: ARHGHBHLBLH

I've been drawn back in. Ran 2 UFO missions on grounded UFOs, took out some floaters and sectoids. Getting Plasma pistols for some fast, cheap (read: free) firepower before I go the route of the Laser Weapons.

I would be interested in a X-COM remake using HTML5, shouldn't be much of a problem, as HTML5 is pretty capable, really.

Perhaps in the future once I get my ass to learn HTML5, and I successfully make a few simple games with it, I should really get on to making a prototype battlescape for this game...

This gets pretty close. It's obviously inspired by XCOM.

You know what I'm noticing?  Higher-difficulty games seem easier, because you get MOAR LOOT.  Something like 50% more aliens, often in situations where you can take them all out with one shot, means a much faster start (and more reliable ammo on the weaker plasma weapons).

Yeah, the game's difficulty can be a bit... nonlinear sometimes. Case in point: Unless I use boring exploitative tactics like psionic puppetry or throwing grenades through floors, I tend to come out of (landed) battleship missions with very few casualties, while supply ship missions almost always cost at least a couple of agents' lives.

Why? Because in a battleship mission you'll kill so many ETs so fast outside the ufo (where scout-sniper tactics reign supreme) and in the central shaft (where the aliens congregate in large numbers to do a great deal of not shooting at you) that all the rest will be panicking rather than sniping at you on the incredibly defender-favouring upper level. Whereas on a supply ship mission the middle level can be very dangerous , and the corridor leading to the bridge is a death-trap that the aliens can sometimes defend damn well.

Some changes I am very tempted to make for my next game:
- Make more holes for flying suits.  Specifically, the Skyranger needs a way for soldiers to hover down next to the ramp, instead of going around.  And all stairs need THREE TILES of floor removed above them, not TWO.  Simple fix.  Vital fix.  Will make floater missions more interesting too.
- Bump alien bravery from 80 up to 90 or 100.  Yeah, let's go with 100.
- That Extender mod where you need LOS to panic/MC.  I'll just try it with MC and see how it goes.

If it was possible to tweak the code so that aliens knew how to shoot down gravity shafts, battleships would be so much more "fun".  As a compromise, I don't leave my soldiers standing ON the lifts for now, because that is a little too cheap.

I'm undertaking a new challenge - DOMINION OVER EARTH mode. I'm going to have 8 bases each running one Avenger with a single Plasma Beams and one Interceptor with a single Plasma Beam. My goal will be to shoot down every UFO I can and maintain a positive score without going to Cydonia for as long as possible. My expenses are paid for largely by a mindshielded manufacturing/radar base that can make an Avenger in 6 days and has already made me 40 million dollars in Plasma Cannons.

The only thing I can see making this AT ALL difficult is being able to fuel so many Avengers, but with the Interceptors for slower craft it shouldn't be too hard.

Ha! I remember my first time with X-com. It was tough, but i managed to beat it in one go.

Now.. In Terror from the deep i was hitting the wall with my head halfway through the first phase of trawler mission, not knowing that there's another, even worse part.

And then lobsterman trawler mission started..   ::)

And afterwards, a terror mission in which the squad got spammed by grenades from every direction in first round of combat.

And... Yeah

Fun

There's a reason why people thought for many years there was a bug in TFTD that put difficulty on superhuman no matter what setting you choose.

The difficulty is that lobsterman show up long before you can take them on and that the alliens actually use grenades!

The 10 stage,  2 hour long trawler missions are painful, not difficult. No save during last missions giant maze, with endless corners of death is painful and bs.

Enemy Unknown's was turned into a childs play once you had psi powers. Winning end mission (Cydonia?) in one round wasn't uncommon.

The winning of cydonia was more caused by the footballs, than psi. If you knew what you were doing, you could track down the location of the brain, and the path through to it, with just the cursor.

Welp, I'm getting geared up to take on Cydonia. Getting blasters, researched and loads of heavy plasma clips made.

I haven't been to the end game in a bit. It'll be fun. Though I won't be taking blasters with me, or using psi much. Mainly researching the blasters to make doing Alien Bases easier. I have 3 on the map currently, and I've taken out two previously. Both those 2 bases has costed me heavily in well trained men, with the rest being in the medical wing for more then a month.

My super badass Captain has spent something like 5 months in the mediwing all together now. Hes worth it though. His weapon accuracy is almost a 100, and his Tus are are almost in the 90s.
