A friend of mine showed me the Japanese dress-up game called "Poupee Girl" she got for her DS and I mocked her for playing a girly dress-up game for girls since she normally plays Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil, Amnesia: TDD and the like. I redacted my mockery with the statement "It's okay, I don't have the higher ground here. I play Dwarf Fortress" to which she responded "Dwarf Fortress is totally Poupee Girl for boys."

Since we're all talking about what our family members say about DF...

... My mother would be quite upset about the notion that things like engineering and geology and military and physics and such are "boy" game ideas, while "girl" game ideas are playing with dolls.

Personally, I like [DF] because after climbing the damned learning cliff, I'm too elitist to consider not liking it.

Why did this make me laugh like a maniac?

"goblin dot game"

That's really very cute. ^^

Once, my mother looked over the shoulder at the screen. I started explaining enthusiastically about my dining room, my watering system, and when a dwarf pulls that lever water will flow down this ramp and form a beautiful waterfall in the dining room. That makes the dwarves happy. =D

Her response: Well, apparently not just the dwarves.

Wow, seems not many familys like DF that much... I mean I guess it does take many hours from their loved ones, but what ever.

None of my friends know I even play.
As a 16 year old I don't think I'd get much respect for playing DF.

My three year old son will happily sit on my lap and watch me play, but has lots of questions.
Sounds soo familiar...

Well, he does the same whatever game I'm playing but he certainly learned the word 'dwarf' from DF  :D

My Dad refers to it as 'that dwarf game' which is rather suprising since he grew up playing games that looked rather similar.

You'd probably be surprised.  When I was in high school, if I had been playing DF I could have roped in like ALL of my guy-friends into playing, and we could compare achievements.  After all, what teenage boy doesn't enjoy a good goblin slaughter?  Sadly when I was in HS, DF would have barely been playable, much less the glorious weaponization race it is today.

"I hate PETA" isn't a joke.

I know.  I love my pets & other animals, but I do hate PETA, and it's certainly no joke.  I guess you missed the big news stories like 5 years ago or so where a bunch of dead animals were found in dumpsters and it turned out to be PETA was accepting animals that were being given up by their owners, going out into their van, and euthanizing the animals right there on the spot, then dumping them.

You should check out http://www.petakillsanimals.com there's all sorts of interesting info on there.  Unless you've got a weak stomach.

If you like animals, support the SPCA, not PETA.

So? Is no problem. Kill your friends, make shoes from their skin and donate them to government. Next season, new friends come.

Just remember to be graudal about it, it'd be bad for immigration to be considered a death trap.  And make sure you give your firends some really really really good food so they don't mind you killed their friends in front of them.
