Thanks. Craftdwarves workshop. The one workshop I never ever built because it's been useless for so long.
You need to dig deeper and find blue metal then!

Or make bone bolts, convert extra hooves, horns, tooths, skulls, whatever to tradeable crafts or decorate s* out of everything with them.

It is kinda first workshop I build on embark...

Different playstyles...

You should be able to eat them fine. There's currently a problem where ANY egg-laying creatures will use nest boxes, not just tamed ones.

My question: If you mod eggs to be made out of completely inedible material, can you still cook them? Also, do the eggshells contribute to their weight in cooked dishes?

Cooking them up now, and I've got another crundle filling the box up again. This should probably be changed. I like the idea of wild animals using nest boxes, but I don't think cavern creatures should prioritize climbing up 50 stairs and going through an occupied fortress so they can lay eggs in a box on the surface - it might be nice if cavern critters would be attracted to boxes in the caverns, and surface critters stick to surface boxes. But then would that cause problems with tamed animals not wanting to use inside boxes..?

They don't weigh very much (this stack of 13 crundle eggs is 3 urists in weight) so I'm not sure about the eggshell, I would assume the whole thing counts as a single object though.

What the hell is a nestbox?!

Something used to give free range chickens (and alligators, apparently) a place to lay their eggs so you don't have to go hunting under bushes. I'm wondering how wild animals in DF reproduce if they will only lay eggs in nestboxes.

Well PRESUMABLY the wild animals DO pop 'em out under a bush.

Or in the alligator's case, in a mound of rotting vegetable matter. At least, that's how crocs do it, not sure about 'gators.

...do we HAVE crocs in this game?

In DF they prefer to use your fort's nesting boxes, it seems.  No definitive word on Kobold behavior yet.

Even if you play an intelligent civ with eggs, your fort members will use the nest boxes to lay eggs. As will the traders! Presumably, if kobold traders existed in DF, they'd lay eggs when visiting you. Bigass, tasty eggs.

I've made a thread specifically for testing various properties of eggs, if anyone is interested.

Wait, Kobolds don't lay eggs, they're mammals, aren't they?

Egg-laying Mammals are real, but they're not exactly semi-intelligent.

My fort has been plagued by droves of wild blue peahens. They've killed all of my ducks! They're quite vicious actually, and have managed to give my unarmed and unarmored militiamen a number of injuries in their insatiable drive to lay their eggs in my nice nest boxes.

Peafowl are LOUD, too.  And ornery.  (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GikHegxYtTw&feature=related)
