Battlestar Galactica Online is a free-to-play space shooter set in the Battlestar Galactica universe. Both a cylon and the colonial fleet are thrown into a far-away sector. Galactica and the Cylon fleet fight while the Colonial fleet tries to escape and the Cylons try to destroy the Colonial fleet once and for all.

It's a fun game, and the PvP is rather intense. Smaller ships dart around huge ships of the line. Flak barriers rip apart Cylon Raiders, and missiles get shot down by cannonfire. It's an intense experience, and extremely fun.

I'll have to give it another go now that it's more finished, but I found myself utterly unimpressed even for a browser game when I was in Beta. The controls were soooo unresponsive.

It's actually a realtime browser game, not unlike the TIE Fighter games. But it is online.

Unity 3D engine. I think you can do short term skirmishes pretty easily.

Giving it another go right now, loads more responsive now..I hope I don't end up giving my life to this game!

Edit: Holy crap they kinda stole the basics of EVE's skills system. Massively simplified and with xp implemented, but skill training is on a timer XD

I live in australia and would hate to have to play with 300+ ping.

This is not a browser game.

This is basically a trimmed-down, fun version of EVE Online that just happens to run in your browser window.

Yup. They took out some of the excess complexity and focused on making a playable space sim-type game. There is still mining and stuff but there's not quite as much an economy.
