Dom thought about it for a minute. "Control And Research Interactive Electronics?" That didn't sound quite right. She decided to poll Taric. "Hey, what do you think C, A, R, I, E, stands for? Maybe if you figure it out and say it you can get a response from the system," she said. "Well, that, and the CARIE systems respond to Technocrat staff. D'you think you can trick it into thinking you are one, like with that card you picked up earlier?"

"I dunno, I just got into the system here though."

Taric checked the personal notes and the personnel files before cracking the next set of Technocrat security.

Walk around the room without feeling or goals. Possibly look for any remaining secrets in the room. And continue being extremely depressed, cursing whatever gods there are out there for such a horrible world to be born in.

"I wanted to be a space ship captain. Nope, not happening. I wanted to stop being bullied in school. Nope, not happening. I wanted to be free. Nope, not happening. I wanted to be a super hero. Nope, not happening... What is the point in life besides pain...?" Tarran mumbled to himself.

Not quite insane. He's dancing on the rails of insane, though.

No.

If someone's definition of "Hugs" is a thermonuclear bomb, "thought" does not in fact count since it's a goddamn thermonuclear explosion. Same thing goes with... whatever your definition is.

It's friday. The prognosis is positive. My classes are keeping be busy, enough so that when I do get a break the last thing I want to do is write even more. Still, friday. Friday is good.

3/5ths of the turn is written. I don't know if I'll finish tonight, tomorrow is definite is it doesn't get done tonight.

Tarran Smith

Walk around the room without feeling or goals. Possibly look for any remaining secrets in the room. And continue being extremely depressed, cursing whatever gods there are out there for such a horrible world to be born in..

Your mind drifts in a morose haze as you finish doctoring your burn wound. [Int 1, Dex 4, Fight 1, Luck 2, Treatment 11/20] A morose haze that causes you to forget to dilute the anti-septic compound before you apply it to your flesh.
You invent several new forms obscenity as fresh pain erupts on the already searingly painful burn wound. The good news is that the wound is very clean; the bad news is that you now have a chemical burn on your arm as well.
Cursing Fate, God, and modern medicine, you stagger resentfully to your feet. Ash and her men pay you no mind as you pace gloomily across the room, jerks. There’s nothing for you here, well, besides the ability to brood about the chronic failure that is your commission until you starve to death.
   [Will 5+1] …

What the hell are you doing? You’re goddamn Tarran Smith, number seventeen on the local Technocrat most wanted board. You’re still you, no matter the odds and no matter what Taric, Dom, or anyone else says or does. You are Tarran Smith; assassin, soldier, saboteur, raconteur, and freedom fighter. You’re still alive, you’re still armed, and you’re still in a position to raise all hell.
Yeah, this place may have you surrounded with every kind of ugly that crawled out of the devil’s ass, but that doesn’t mean you give in.
That just means you can attack in any direction.

The only question that remains is where do you go… Dom would probably want an apology, and not an entirely undeserved one at that. Ash would probably treat you like an armed grunt, and understandably so. Alone, well, you’ve worked alone before. Just not under circumstances this dire.

Ashley Fey

"Alright men, patch up and take a short breather, when we go, we are going in hot"

Harry and Jordan spring into action as soon as you give the order to patch up. Jordan breaks open his ORS pack and hands one of the cylinders over to Harry. Harry grimaces and grinds the little grey bar into his injuries, letting the bacteria go to work on the worst of his rips and tears. (Harry is now damaged)
As soon as Harry is done grinding the ORS in, Jordan hands him the advanced medical kit and passes the basic medical kit off to you. Together the three of you engage in a painful triangle of first aid. You patch Jordan, Jordan patches Harry, and Harry patches you. The process is difficult and only bearable by the liberal administration of topical analgesics.
[Jordan Int 3+2, Dex 4+2, Fight 2+2, Luck 1 (re-roll = 4+2), Treatment 21/20] (HP restored to Harry)
[Harry Int 2+1, Dex 4+1, Fight 3+1, Luck 3+1, Treatment 16/20]
[Ashley Int 3, Dex 2, Fight 4, Luck 2, Treatment 11/20]
Despite the pinches and strange tugging sensations coming from Harry working on your anesthetized back, work proceeds well. Jordan finishes using the last of the supplies in the field surgery kit with masterful skill, Harry manages not to kill you with needle and thread, and you’re doing pretty decently on mending Jordan.

(You regenerate 5hp)
(Harry is now regenerating.)

[Stamina 4+1] (+5 stamina) You roll CARIE around in your mouth for a bit, trying to figure out the acronym for it. All the tech you're used to working with is usually broken and rigged to run on sweat and blood, you’ve never really used something like CARIE before.
You ask Taric about it, hoping that his love of all things blinking will encompass CARIE. Unfortunately he’s deep into whatever the hell he’s doing, sparing you all of two words that are actually relevant to your question.
Jake, however, gets a lot more excited when you mention the ident card. ”You’ve got a card? That’s perfect! Just put it on and address the system. As long as whoever lived here hasn’t renamed the system or set it to use a different language it’ll work,” Jake paused a moment and considered something, ”I think. Unless it checks your voice too.”
”And if it does check my voice?”
”Uh. Don’t know. Never really tried it.”

Nothing can go wrong with this plan.

Taric Sizier

Taric checked the personal notes and the personnel files before cracking the next set of Technocrat security.

The calendar is in all probability useless. The fact that whichever corpse used to live here is currently late for tea is not something that you're concerned with. The personnel files though... those could be interesting. You flick open the file unhurriedly, whistling softly as you scroll through the massive list of alphabetized names. There's a couple thousand people that this computer has registered.
You're going to need more specific search criteria if you're going to learn anything from that mess.
While the personnel list continues to tile out you open up the personal notes on a different screen. [Intuition 5+1] The notes are pages of day to day logs of events, most of them petty and rather useless. A few though catch your interest and you pull them out for later reference.

Unfortunate fatality this evening. An inebriated assistant for one of the science divisions took a dare to get into my office. The trigger on the door broke his neck on the wall. Appropriate forms have been filed. Tensions generated by incident are relatively minor.

The researchers have begun to report an interloper on their system. Alias John Doe. Real name is unknown. Interloper poses as a research assistant and will assist with projects. Untraceable. Concerns have been raised that this is one of the demoted research staff. John Doe most recently attempted to get a senior researcher to let him into the secure files. Security bulletins have been posted.

Ivanov has been spending more time in the vault recently. Two all night work shifts in a week. The lead is pushing him harder to complete his work. He's begun to request access at odd hours. Interruptions are irritating during training. May request to have his vault hours regulated.

Dan is progressing well. Command of the kinetic disciplines has improved considerably from where it used to be. Empathetics are still far stronger. Dan walked through the maintenance mess without being seen. Possible romantic entanglement with rough worker. Understandable at that age. Must be curbed.

The most recent entree is odd. You would have expected information on whatever cataclysm befell the facility, instead the entree is harmless and rather mundane.

Must attend Len's baby shower. Moronic affair. Should not have happened. Celebrating the result of a severe breach of personal conduct is not a good idea. Gives the wrong ideas to lower workers. Will attend with Dan for minimum necessary amount of time.

Setting the log excerpts aside with the personnel files you prepare to delve the next layer of security, insulating the files you already have from the backwash should you fail,
[5+1 Vs 3+1] You pick the new layer of security apart with ease, cutting it open and tearing it apart, decrypting another set of files in the process. One is labeled directives. Another is a vid attached to a file labeled SIR-012. The last is a secondary decryptor, not useful without knowing what it’s meant to decrypt, unless you can pull something out of its buffer.

Quote
Retreat... To the control of my body.

Alright, your demon isn’t going to stand and fight, and you can’t afford to stand and fight. Time to wake up. [Will 4-2] Nothing happens.
   You can’t wake up.
You try again frantically. Closing your eyes and willing yourself to wake up from the hellish nightmare that your mind has become. It doesn’t work. You’re trapped in your own head.
[Dodge 2] You open your eyes and leap backward a second too late to keep the advancing tendril from grazing you lightly. (James -40 dreamspace hp. Dreamspace shotgun destroyed, dreamspace armor destroyed)) The room dims as a cold emptiness spreads into you from the point the tendril touched, dissolving the tenuous threads of will that held your weapon and armor into place.
You’ve felt this before, in your last moments fighting the corrupted shadow. The fungus that had consume him felt the same way, cold and empty. The difference was that it had felt restrained then.
   It doesn’t feel restrained now.

Running away might be good.
