I've tried out Firan MU* which is EXCELLENT, but I would like to find another that doesn't require application and is reasonably popular. (i.e: doesn't have 2 players on at a time) New Worlds doesn't exactly count, as I'm pretty sure you need a description to get all the features. A MUSH would be perfect. Applications should be at least optional. I know a lot of people on these servers will think it's weird to have no applications for an RP MU*, but MU*'s where the RP is created on the go would be less confined, less hard to get into, and wouldn't turn players away from having 50 bajillion pages of crap to write/read/keep-track-of. So... any muds of this manner?

Also, not a MUD, but Improbable Island is pretty great for ad libbed enjoyable RP

Applications as in, "write up a page or two of your character background and go through a process to get it approved".

Nah, FurryMUCK.  It does have a pretty large community going for it at least.

I'm actually writing an RP MU* right now, but unfortunately it's in closed beta, since I'm trying to keep numbers down since it's running on a home server with other stuff on it, and the code base is still very much in early development.

Yeah, far too many MU*s I've seen have RP based around their statistics system...
Which, just doesn't work for me.

Aardwolf never used to be when I was there.  I mean yeah you have the Wolfen (or whatever), but they're just one race, and people don't pick them to be furry--they pick them because they've got ideal stats for "big dumb fighter".  Plus free access to the hunt command which is basically "I want to do quests but thinking is hard!".  Then again, I played a centaur (not very furry, and everything else is less furry) so maybe I just never saw it.  But you'd think that if was a real den of iniquity, I'd have been hit on way more often considering my character was female.  And a cleric, too.  Why no, I wasn't thinking "Guys will be really nice to me and give me things" when I made that character, why do you ask?  (It barely even happened btw.)

RP-enforced places tend to have a lot less TS than other games, anyway, which is kind of nice.  Nothing's immune though, mostly because...well...if you get an RP addict spending 4-6 hours a day (or more!) on a place like that, the same thing's gonna happen as spending that much time in any other social group.

In any case if you do end up on FurryMUCK or someplace like that, be aware that different places and different groups are VEEERRY different.  Everyone wants something completely different from the game, so ask around, and learn what places to avoid.  On FM, and surely on other completely non-furry places too, there's people who socialize, people who roleplay, and people who "roleplay".

Honestly, I lost interest in MUDs a long time ago.  I couldn't find one that felt right for me.

If you want RP, dont play hellmoo. We recently had a player get abused by admins for having descriptions that matched her mutations. Oh, and if your dont follow the basic combustor hammer + headbutt = win formula, your considered to be sperging. Its also heavily infested with the worst from a certain forum, and they have multiple admins who come from their ranks, so even minor infractions against rules that would normally be a warning if that get you permabanned if your against their corp of choice.

That's the main reason I stopped playing MU*'s.  Power tripping admins...
