Thanks

There's one sorted the other way around on the wiki i think.
Anyway,
manager = organizer
leader = doesn't matter much, will be replaced by mayor anyway
broker = appraiser + most social skills
book keeper = record keeper
medical dwarf = diagnoser

Manager needs Organizer.
Expedition leader is just the dwarf with the most social skills on embark, I think, but no skills are necessary.
Bookkeeper develops record keeping, but you don't really need it.
Brokers need appraising the most, as this allows them to accurately value the traders' wares, but almost all the other social skills effect trading too. I've seen a trader with high social skills manage to sell goods for twice their actual value.
Medical dwarf needs the Diagnoser skill, and this is VERY important.

Appraiser is the only one you need to worry about at embark.

You will get an immigrant with excellent diagnostic skills eventually.... Or in my game I had some weird contaminant run rampant and would spread every time a dwarf stepped on the tile... Eventually hundreds of dwarves had visited my hospital and I had a legendary diagnostician.    And they would all heal their minor foot wounds eventually.

Everything else.. Learn on the job =)

expedition leader/mayor needs good social skills as part of there job is to offer consolation.
anyway, mayor gets elected only for its high social skills.

Not necessarily. If you play with less than 50 dwarves and are quite good at keeping them alive, the odds of getting a dwarf with any diagnostician skills at all are not high.

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

If you're keeping them alive why do you need a diagnostician at all?

there is an image of the goblin Utes Gozrusrozsnus and dwarves in elf bone. The goblin is making a plaintive gesture. the dwarves are striking a menacing pose.

For that one time you make a major mistake, and a FB is painting the walls with your dwarves.

Or for that one time when a strange mood fails because you didn't have any leather, and the dwarf goes berserk and has to be put down by an impromptu military composed of miners, one of whom turns out to be married to the berserking dwarf and spends the next season being miserable, and occasionally tantrumming and attacking your other dwarves with his pickaxe. There's always that, too.

Anybody who thinks that they can play this game without the occasional mishap is fooling themselves - there's always room for error.

Keep in mind that the dwarves are essentially alcoholic toddlers, and act accordingly.

But then, you're not keeping your dwarfs alive, and that contradicts the first statement, making your point invalid. Gah, sorry the debater in me is ranting.
