You really should get involved with the Games Threshold Discussion and List. :-\

Another reason that your games aren't filling is that you're an unknown quantity. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but it does mean that people won't be as quick to join your games. And with how few people there are to begin with, it means they might not fill at all.

Comments / questions:

Okay, so the idea is to play a Dwarf Fortress-themed mafia game.
Been done, but it's been a while.

This is split into "day" and "night" stages. During the "day" stage folks decide who to hang use justice on, if anyone. Then during the night the mafia disguised elves go and kill someone they choose. At the same time, most professions such as the policeman observer, psycho "doctor" and doctors militia do their work. I'll assume you know the different professions, if you don't just ask.[/spoiler]
We all know how Mafia in general works. The problem is in the details. Will days be based on time (if so, how long?) or will lynches be Hammer-based?

You also leave a lot of other common rules out. Are PMs allowed? More details on ties? What about No-lynching votes? Tied votes? Speaking after being lynched? Nightkilled?

Legendary Miner/Woodcutter/Lye maker... - citizen immune to hanging
Seems like it could be overpowerul. If they (fail) to get lynched, you have an instant certified town center. Combine that with the Doctor and you have a 5/6 chance per day of even protecting him.

Hammerer (Me) - the guy that deals out "justice" with a silver/platinum war hammer; immune to death
Does this mean you're actually playing? (As in you have a vote / will comment on things?) It's ambiguous.

Goblin (Hidden) - mafia #2
Does this mean that you will have two mafias?

Headmaster(s) (Hidden) - has 2x vote on killing, kills anyone who meets him during the night
Is this an Elf role? Or a Dwarf role? If a Dwarf role, how is it anti-town?

Doctor (Hidden) - Psychopath drunk doctor that either protects or kills a person during the night (killing 1 or 6 out on 1d6)
Could be used to protect the Legendary Dwarf (at least with good chance). Again, is still mostly a more town role than anti-town.

I know I'll just fail. Thread not locked, but no longer in use. I guess it's to see what kind of interest there is now.

Didn't mean to chase you off.  Just try tuning things and we can give it a chance.

It's fun. You should stick around and try playing a few games. I'm sure you'll get a feel for it pretty quick. Also it's a good way for people to get to know you.

Some ideas:
  • Beginner's Mafia is a good introduction if you either replace in or wait for the next one.
  • Mephansteras' games (Supernatural or Paranormal) are always good, albeit a bit complex at times.
  • Something else will probably come along before long hopefully.

I strongly recommend going back and reading the Dwarf based mafia games that have already been played. They'll give you ideas on what worked and what didn't, and you can see how things played out.

As for strange roles and whatnot, it's a good idea to hash everything out in the Mafia Gametypes thread Janus mentioned. Crazy roles are all well and good, but it's tough to balance. Trust me on this, I've gone through a LOT of crazy stuff with Paranormal, and much of that has been scrapped for making things unbalanced or unfun.

I also echo Janus's suggestion that you play some of the various games we have going on here. They're fun and it'll give you a feel for how things are usually done in a forum setting like this. Especially since our particular forum has it's own peculiarities that set it aside from some other places (like mafiascum).

I was also working on tryinbg to remake DF mafia. But I'm getting pretty much nowhere, anyhow, and I'm TRYING not to play anymore, but I get enthralled by making BYORs. So, I'll probably be around forever.

I'm still filling out some roles and rules for my version. I'll post it somewhere for review and discussion when I'm done.
