I love Civ but I hate any and all forms of virtual social networking so much.

I have my doubts on Facebook games too. It's not that all of them suck, it's more of the "spam your friends or pay real money to do anything" gameplay model. If people moved from that, it'd be a lot better. This sounds more like a MMO browser game, so it sounds better.

Alright, well, it looks like we have enough people.

Does anyone WANT to be the leader?

Also, for the team name, I figure Bay12

I elect myself as tribal elder, and vote Alehks (or whatever his facebook name is) as team captain :P

Alright, I'll do the captainy stuff (most likely with a lot of asking you guys what to do).

So, go fill the form out: http://www.2kgames.com/civworld/alpha/

Team Name: Bay12
Team Captain's Name: Alehkhs

As noted by the post above, you're probably best off copy/pasting my name, as to not misspell it.

Done.

Oddly, it required me to list my game-affiliation. I took that as a "Do you work in a game company y/n" question, but there wasn't a no option. So I just wrote none and it let me through. :P

I have so many mixed feelings on this I'm getting dizzy, but hell, why not. If it's no good I can always quit. I dislike Facebook on general principles, but since most of my family lives on the other side of the world and they all use Facebook, I would just be making my life more difficult for no practical reason if I refused to use it.

I've also signed up. I didn't figure out exactly how teams are going to be selected though. Is it just random chance + minimum group requirement?

Any of these activities comprise a breach of your contractual obligations under the ALPHA TESTER AGREEMENT and will result in ejection from the Alpha testing.

Seems a bit draconian eh?

I'd have thought they would want free publicity.

The first rule of Civ World is you do not talk about Civ World.

Applied too. No response about it yet.

Not that draconian. It is in alpha, and normally alpha (sometimes even beta) testers have some kind of confidentiality agreement.
