I submit to you a compromise, good sirs: Fortresssparks, the Flying Dream of Stabbing.

Hmm? Hmm?

Fortress? Sparks? Dream? Stabbing? Your thoughts are a little disorganized on the subject. Fortresssparks seems good. For now, at least.
You decide to see how sharp your new knife is, and try to cut through a small section of the hem of your cloak. The knife passes through the cloth as easily as it does the air. "Huh."
You try it on the stone counter of the forge. The knife has only a little resistance as you stab it into the stone. This brings an issue to mind: you can't store this knife. No matter what, it will just cut right through any container you put it in. You can never touch the blade either, or you might lose a finger to inattentiveness. You question the wisdom of making it double-edged. Oh well, you can just hold it for now.
You start to leave the forges, but you notice as you turn that your new weapon glows like its mother ore. Considering how the dwarf who greeted you seemed to revere it, you doubt just anyone would have it. They might start asking difficult questions. You would have to blacken the blade somehow.
You walk over to the forges and use the tongs to place the knife into the hottest part of the fire. Even though you leave it there for several minutes, the glowing does not cease. When you take it out of the inferno, you notice that there is no difference. It still glows, and is cool to the touch. You put your hands over your face. "Goddamn magic," you mutter to yourself.

Ask the goblins if they have any ideas on the storage of this thing.

Check the blue glowy knife for an aura.

Rub coaldust on it (being careful, of course, not to touch the edge)

wah awsome story by the way. i like the how you give us an insight on how the dwarfs live and do other stuffs

plus just run cloth around the blade gentally because u cant get cut runiing afinger a across the blade but along it can so as long as the clloth doesn't move up and down it shouldn't ( in theory) be come cut by the knife

Powpow, the cloth would still be pushed onto the edge. And since said edge easily cuts through solid rock. Rock that's been heated for years, I think that makes it even stronger.

A plan for the storage of this knife. Take a knife-sized block of stone, stab the knife into it down to the hilt (which'll keep it from going in any further), then wrap some leather bands around the stone block and the back of the knife's guard if it has one, otherwise wrap it the other way, around the handle and the side of the block the knife's in. Either way, stop it from moving as much as possible.
It's either that, or using more of the metal to make a scabbard. We probably don't have the skill for that.
We could also cover the glow by coating it in sticky grime or black oil, but that probably drips right off.

.. Did the hammer we used to forge it get damaged much? We could try stabbing the knife into the probably-metal head of the thing.. see if that offers any protection. Please dear gods of blood and darkness, let it not be gold or a similarly-useless metal...

Also, try asking the goblins for help.

"Do you have any ideas?" you ask yourself and, by extension, the goblins. You wait for a response, but all you get is a nagging feeling that they would have you try to cover the blade with something. You don't know much about the nuances of the aura-communication, so you take that as an answer.
Looking around, you find several different dusts on the counters, but they refuse to stick. You walk over to a tub of... well, it may have been water at some point. Now it has been fouled over the years with metal debris, crumbs, and a large variety of mosses and fungi. You assume that it is used to cool the blades of swords when they are ready to be used. You dip the knife in, but are disappointed. The metal reacts with whatever was in the water, clearing it of all impurities with a beautiful blue light. What remains is a tub, perfectly clean, filled with pure, fresh water.
Even though this on its own is miraculous, it still doesn't help you cover the blade.
Deciding on a different approach, you cut out a block of stone a little larger than the blade out of a nearby boulder. You shove the knife into the block and tie it down with some cloth that was also discarded nearby. You ponder momentarily why, exactly, there are so many random materials here, but are interrupted by something touching your hand. It's the knife, which has apparently freed itself of the block of its own will and returned to you. It takes you a moment to process this.
This gives you an idea. You throw the knife to the best of your ability at the opposite wall, and it gets lodged in the stone. You wait for a moment, but it stays where it is. Getting impatient, you turn to examine the block to get a more reasonable answer, but the very second you avert your eyes you are holding the knife again.

tell the knife u love it and ur not going to abandon it ur just keepin it safe for now.
unless the knife is sentient and like to show its beauty and magical prows like a phallis symbol you got to try and communicate with it then

or

if its just an extention of you body try and "visualise" to hide its got magical propaties.

or

just hide it in your belt or pants like some people hide guns

It's not necessarily -cursed-, per se. It just returns to us. And cleans water.

It seems like we won't be able to put it away easily. Covering both our wrist and the knife might work.. as long as whatever material we use for cover doesn't touch the blade. Think of the kind of cloth one would wrap a broken arm in, hanging from the neck. In dutch, it's a mitella. In english, an esmarch bandage.. We could feign having a broken arm.

Or, since it's magic and we seem to be attuned to various magical things anyway.. See if you can safely toggle off the magic, by speaking to whatever spirit may possess it. Or move the whole blade to your mindscape, held afloat the same way as the guardian swords. It is a fricking purifying boomerang knife of atom-splitting sharpness. This idea is not too strange to work.
Personally, I'd reason that the magic is most likely the thing giving this knife its shape, sharpness and other qualities. It most likely is absolutely nothing without said magic. So, I would try to loosen its physical form and turn it into a magical orb to store somewhere. Preferably a non-physical orb attached loosely to my lower arm, but a physical marble-type thing could also work.. just put it in a pocket or net or something.
