I don't like it. I mean, it's pretty and streamlined, whatever that means, and that's good, right? However, I like having things like skill totals in a more easily viewed summary. Comparison at a glance is important for things like that; it's hard to get the big picture or compare things when you can only view a few skills at once.

Of course, at this rate, the game will only have four skills on release anyway.

Hm...

Did you notice that the entire thing was written from the perspective of a console controller?  Not a good sign... ::)

What was so wrong with Morrowind's menu system?  Everything was on one single screen with a single press of the right-mouse button.

I'm starting to think that what Final Fantasy 7 did to JRPGs is the same as what Oblivion has done to Western RPGs.

I must say that this has been the only preview that I haven't been impressed by, even though it is nice and streamlined.

EDIT: When I say 'streamlined' I am referring to the game interface.

Meh, nothing very important about UI there ,it's standard talk : "We have radial menu! Rejoice! Tabs begone!" It all depends on details really..
As for replacing old star sign system for perks ? Perks ? Well, star signs were pretty characteristic for TES :(
I feel that we haven't seen worst of the simplifying process :/

The screenshot looks absolutely terrible. What kind of potato thought putting horizontal text and bars in a horizontal layout is a good thing? Now you can see even less things on screen - awesome! Only thing missing is making a Fable 3 style menu where you have to run to individual menu elements in a big room representing the given screen.

The best thing there: Inventory item models- I like being able to look at the neat items I find. Worst part: Everything else.

Was hoping for actual screenshots not already in the GI magazine.

There comes a time when you must take off the soft, furry slippers of a boy and put on the shoes of a man.
Unless of course they don't fit properly and your feet blister up like bubble wrap.
Oh ho ho, but don't try to return the shoes, because they won't take them back once you've worn them.
Especially if that fat pig Tony is at the desk.

Does every icon in the GUI show the musical genre and publishing date, and author and album too?

The menu is idiotic. It has the worst possible format that could have been chosen.

That's because they want to stop using gaming consoles as the standad. From now on, the iPhone is the standard.

Oh well, I'm sure that someone will have modded in a new menu anyway within the first month or two.

Over-engineered GUI that does little to add to the gameplay. Brace for Elder Scroll Vail.
