Yes, many apologies, I managed to completely miss it, H.A.M. will defend. If defend grants actions in the time allotted to those who waited, why not just wait once per round and defend the rest of the time?

Just so you know, defend is kind of weird, AP wise.
On the round that you use it, it costs 1 AP, but gives that AP back at the end of the round, so it can be used to "carry over" extra AP from one round to another.
Wait, on the other hand, simply skips your own turns, so it can be used to wait out enemy buffs, or use a Form when you only have exactly enough AP to use it.

Errr... So that meant that waiting was completely pointless up until this point?
(Since if they got no forms or time based things, then waiting does nothing really)

Wait, if used at the end of the round, gives you a "Wait round" (like Shanks, Pineapple, and Lunch Darkling got), where you have the AP from your previous turn, while your opponent has no AP (unless they defended, in which case they get their defence AP back, like in H.A.M.'s fight, where he has 1 AP for the Wait round, instead of none.).
This is a good way to take advantage of the opponents -1 to rolls when exhausted.
