In India, it's mandatory to list your blood type on your driver's license.

Which is the only reason I know I'm O+

My new flatmate is Indian btw. Truly mind-blasting. It's too good.

(there wouldn't be any point on doing routine blood groups anyway)
Knowing your blood type, and carrying a card in your wallet which lists it, can save your life in cases where there's no time or means to test your blood type for a transfusion.
Won't they just give you O negative blood if you're in an accident and they don't know your blood type?
Yeah, pretty much. EDs and theatres have reserves of O- for this purpose.
Also, finding out the basic group is fairly fast... five minutes, really. It's the full crossmatch and testing for irregulars that takes time. And that wont be done in an emergency situation
They can just do O+ , even, if O -  was scarce. Rhesus antigen is not that important, short term. Most mass transfusion protocols include a clause to switch from O- to O+, after a number of units.

I've never seen anyone routinely test for  blood group (except in pregnancy, for obvious reasons). This stuff about India is news to me

I can't donate blood... My meds disqualify me.

There's also no official register of organ donors in Norway, and thus no organ donor card. It's entirely determined by what your "closest contact" says when asked about it, so they advertise that registering to be a donor is "as easy as turning to the person next to you, and saying 'I am an organ donor!'".

This of course means that if you don't have an emergency contact or "close individual", or if that individual decides to ignore/reinterpret what you said, well... Then you're kinda fucked, ain't ya?

You know what flips the number of organ donors from e.g. 15% to 85%? Merely making it an opt-in vs opt-out tick-box on the form. e.g. if you have to tick to donate organs, something like 15% tick to donate, and if you have to tick to not donate organs, something like 15% tick to not donate.

It's not just laziness either: look at those studies where they cause group behavior to stand up when a bell rings, but they then remove the original people who were in on the joke, but the remaining people still do it, and even induct new people into the group behavior. e.g. social defaults are very powerful, even if no remaining people know why they're doing the behavior.

e.g. by having to tick a box, you're implying that ticking the box is the exception, and that not ticking the box is the social default. So the designer of the form can bear this in mind, and choose whichever default they want.

I am not permitted to donate due to a heart valve deformity. They are terrified that I will get bacterial plaque in my heart, and that they could be legally liable, so no donation center will let me donate.

I could donate organs though. No diseases, reasonably healthy.  Not like I will be needing them should I die.

Then it turns out the Egyptians was right about the afterlife and you should have kept your internal organs in a jar next to your body.

Idunno...  Donating one's heart seems like the best way to make it lighter than a feather.

Well, not like that's worse than regular death for an atheist.

Well no... I've read mythos about people being crapped into a second underworld/eternal restlessness as well. I think it varied between sects and time periods.

Also, this bit from wiki was interesting
