no way I'm paying a ton of money to get ultimate. I'll just wait for whatever comes after 8, assuming they treat the start bar with the respect it actually deserves.

You can fix Win8 into basically being 7 or XP or whatever with a shell, which can actually be worth the effort since computers with 8 sometimes sell for markedly less than 7. At this point that's probably the best route, though, waiting it out.

Totally understandable, 8 is a heaping pile of rubbish. It also saved me a couple hundred bucks to suck it up and use it with a shell. *shrugs*

I have a laptop, but it is crazy ancient. Still runs like a champ though. Little pink Dell that somehow has survived during a time when my mom has managed to burn through 6 or 7 laptops. I am not entirely sure how she does it.

Yeah, I have 8 because it came with my PC, and I can confirm it's not as bad as some people make it out to be if you use it as a shell.

This is how clueless my mom is about computers (and she's leaps ahead of my dad.)

She got a phone call from someone. They told her they worked with Microsoft and her computer was on the verge of crashing, and they were going to help her with that. Now I'm not entirely sure what happened to that laptop, other than it ended up in the trash or tucked away with the other dead laptops, but I couldn't connect how she thought Microsoft got her number or why they would just be handing her free tech support, or how, without installing any remote access programs, they would know anything about her computer...
