I think I've been having some kind of gender identity freak-outs over the past few weeks. It's getting to the point where if somebody asked me 'male or female' I'd probably just answer 'yes'. It's disconcerting having something that's always seemed integral to my sense of self thrown into flux. .-.

the bbs-era anarchists cookbook is... scarily reliable.

some of the materials used are now unavailable (f.ex. a highly specific brand of drain cleaner) but goddamn. you could actually trust the internet with your life most times had you a basic knowledge of chemistry to discern between utter bullshit and plausible things

I was actually really surprised at how simple the napalm formula was.  Simple enough that just about anybody could hear it once, remember it forever, and make a some gallons of it anytime they wanted.  I've been told it's not quite like real napalm, but apparently it's still effective.

Well duh, all you need to do is make burning fluid sticky goo-like, preferably with some other burning stuff.
And damn if just mentioning this didn't make me want to experiment with stuff lying around...

Isn't it like, petrol and styrofoam? Or is that a part of meth cooking...?

Yep, styrofoam dissolved in petroleum. Or any other thickening agent.

Thermite is also easy, the thing is to make it any useful you need something to light it.

..What, matches or a lighter won't work?  :P

I guess this homemade thermite/napalm could make a useful molotov cocktail too. Just use the rag stuck in the bottleneck to light it. I now have yet another option in case of a zombie apocalypse.

That's exactly what it is.  The styrofoam just melts right into the gasoline.

I actually saw something on TV... some tech show (and not like, some tiny one or something. About on par with the earlier sci-fi channel in terms of size), years back, showing how to make something like a dead switch for your hard drive with homemade thermite. Literally recommending to have this sitting around in case cops thieves or something came by to get your HD. Flip the switch, nothing but ash left of all that precious incriminating personal data.

@Footjob, you can microwave most grains I've tried pretty easily through the microwave, even if they aren't packaged for it.

Magnesium. Which is not hard to get. Why would that be a breach of forum rules?

Just being cautious, man. No, it's not hard to get. I used to get it from an everyday item, super cheap.

...is it wrong that I now feel slightly terrified because this stuff is apparently a) easy to discover how to make, b) easy to procure the ingredients for, c) easy to make, and d) could be put together by any random nutjob?

It's not that useful. There's a reason its use is not so wide-spread in the military.
If you get your hands on the proper delivery system, though...
