That forest sounds really cool, minus the suicides. I'd definitely like to take a walk through it and appreciate the silence.

Mistake me for a corpse?  You mean while I'm asleep or something?  I doubt I'd do any sleeping :P

I've always wanted to explore some place that's supposed to be super haunted, especially overnight.  Never had the opportunity.  I'm sure that forest would be a hell of an experience, perhaps enough to get it out of my system for a lifetime.

Reading this tourist account right now.

I do wonder why it's such a popular suicide location.  There doesn't seem to be anything convenient about it for that purpose other than the likelihood that you won't be found for a while.  It also seems odd that people would want to die in a place traditionally believed to be inhabited by demons.  But supposedly depressed people feel a very strong compulsion to go there.

Suicide locations become popular from frequency. They probably don't care so much about the demon myths because they're suicidal and Japanese demons are different, as are most things in that nation.

Most of them make some sort of sense to begin with, though.  Global suicide spot #1 is the Golden Gate Bridge, and that one makes sense.  It's just a damn convenient thing to jump off from.  Aokigahara is just an unusual forest.

And Japanese demons are different, but the implicit threat of becoming a tormented spirit is still very much there.  Doesn't make sense that if your life has become too unbearable that you'd go end it in the place that has the highest likelihood of trapping you in an even worse state of existence.

Unless you consider being a tormented spirit a better state of existance.

The thought has crossed my mind that some people probably want to become onryo, just to be a blight on the world that made them so miserable.  My workplace has given me similar thoughts on occasion.

I mean, it sounds like a pretty depressing forest. Maybe people just come there a lot when they're depressed and they just end up deciding to kill themselves because of the atmosphere.

Maybe the forest isn't actually a suicide hotspot at all, but is actually being portrayed as such by the cabal of serial killers who created the original reputation so they could operate without suspicion.

You know even if it wasn't intentionally cultivated like that, it would now be really useful for that purpose and probably happens often enough.

So I realized there's a good chance I've been walking around with a broken, improperly healed collarbone for the last six months or so, without realizing it.  I thought the pain whenever I moved my arm was due to sleeping on a bad mattress, the idea that one of my bones might have set wrong is kind of scary.

I might have forgotten to hang my parking permit from my mirror. There's a real possibility my car got towed today. The lot is not patrolled on weekends, so if it's still there, it's going to be there till I can get there at my leisure, but fuck. I can probably do something about the fines since I actually do have a permit, and it is sitting in the front seat if I didn't hang it, but dear god I'm freaking the fuck out right now.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

A collarbone is not a minor break. You would notice if you broke dat.

If it was completely broken it would be very noticeable, but what is being suggested here is an improper heal, which is far more subtle.
