DF is free, and my online banking shit isn't working, so no contest here.

The only thing I like about minecraft is the 3D graphics and the multiplayer support. I think if those were put into DF, the results would be far greater than anything minecraft could (due to its soft, squishy, casual, not-used-to-real-hardship userbase) ever be.

Both games boil down to:

"Oh my, a zombie. I will build a wall and become invincible."

However, in DF this turns into:

"HOLY FUCK SKELETAL VULTURES CAN FLY?!"

Lets start some production. The metal smith got eaten, so were going for stone mugs. DIG MINERS, DIG.
*Five minutes later*
Ok, so were running very low on food, due to the seeds being stuck outside, but traders will come!
*Five minutes later*
TRADERS! Woo! Oh wait, they got eaten by zombies.

Due to the fact that in one situation, a we lose the fortress, we can see that the second situation is a lot more fun, dur to, you know, losing and all. In the first situation you might as well not even build a fortress.

Mental hardship. Any athletic jackwipe can run a long time or lift things, but it takes a REAL MAN to press on despite constant zombie attack, the death of mission critical personnel, goblin sieges, dragon raids, and your comrades' fragile psyches that have been strained to the breaking point by all of the above, not to mention the siren's lure of the +cave spider silk sock+.

I wasn't kidding about the skeletal vultures. They can fly.

And they're ANNOYING

They have this knack of attacking right when I've designated 300 tiles of constructions and then I have to go block by block un-suspending everything. Gha!

Honest question: How does one grind in Minecraft? The DF forums are the only place I've heard people talk about grind in Minecraft and I'd really like to understand where this is coming from.

How? Well, a fair part of the game is digging, digging, plopping down a torch and more digging - it is up to the beholder to consider this grinding or not.
