Contrary to natural belief, it would be near impossible to defeat 3000 Max Brooks type zombies, as you'd have to destroy each zombies brain.
Thus, the church would be doomed.

When he enter the mall, the German (who was not using a crowbar) turns to grey and the ensign.

With a flourish, he pulls out two revolvers out of his trench coat. Both of the revolvers are equipped with two scopes on top, and are made out of some dull, dark grey material.

Shortly after that, the Ensign is firing into the room wildly with his modified AK-74.

More plausible solution.
The soldiers repeatedly fire into the horde, with Kovalenko being thrifty with his ammo and the occasional OG-7V Rocket fired from the snipers conveniently hidden RPG-7. The horde is eventually thinned down into the hundreds.
