It's like when the royal family has something-or-other happen over here. Almost nobody actually gives a toss, but they definitely do care for the free day off.

One of my supervisors at work passed away over the weekend. ...That's not the WTF.

They offered everyone a chance to go home for day with pay. I know it's probably wrong to feel this way, I can't help but think that as soon as everyone heard "with pay" they all went for the door. While there's one or two people I could expect to do something like that, there were a few that, assuming they weren't truly so aggrieved(which they could have been), surprised me.

They didn't tell me until I was already pretty busy. I probably should have, since only two other people stayed to work.

I think you're all forgetting that they waited to tell Akura last, which is also sort of a WTF.
I refer to moments such as these as "Job Security".

Additionally, a large group of employees taking the day off adds a bit of significance to the passing of the supervisor, which probably makes the other supervisors feel better. Sort of Exactly like paying people to mourn the loss of one of their own.

Getting payed to go home and do nothing sounds like a thing most people would go for.

Yeah, go north. Lovely industrial wasteland, gibberish language, five days of sunlight in a year, and slugs in the walls.
Or one of the university cities. Oxford perhaps - actually nice weather for a change, but half the population consists of insufferable snobs, half is loaded, drunk, foreign students of varying intellectual ability, and half (don't lecture me about maths!) is naughty local blokes from the dodgier parts of town. Mix well in the evenings an pour into the tiny city centre.
Excellent country overall, would live there again.

I have today learned of the satanic leaf-tailed gecko. Adorably bitey lizards, but they got one hell of a name. *desultory drum tish*

iirc you've more got the genes of bog standard humans, heh. The gutfat is like the last thing to get eaten when you're losing weight, much to many, many people's consternation.

Chest, lower belly and love handles are the bog-standard male fat distribution pattern.

Women tend to be thighs, butt and upper arms.

Damn, that is a good argument for temporary female hormone therapy!
