So, I've been playing Ys VIII Lacrimosa of DANA...  One of the plot elements has me raging.  I will spoiler it.

Ok, There is an ancient civilization of magic users who all perish after an asteroid crashes into the planet. Their world was a warm tropical paradise, and they were ill-equipped to handle the ensuing thousands-of-years long ice-age that came from it.

That said--- There is also this large, already excavated cavern underneath their capital.  It has pools of fucking magma sloshing around inside it. There are nice, good stone work constructed spaces above that level of the excavated system.  Large enough for large-scale internal agriculture.

Look, I TOTALLY GET that they are ignorant of things like sterling engines, or sulfur lamps.  BUT-- they have FUCKING MAGIC. **FUCKING MAGIC**.  Including fucking magic based interior lighting.

Rather than freeze their fucking stupid asses off with pitiful fires inside the half-demolished ruins of their royal palace (WHICH LACKS A FUCKING DOOR, SO NO DERP IT'S COLD IN THERE, IDIOTS!), they could just as well have moved into this large and expansive space underneath their capital, where the geothermal heat would have kept is livable, and use their magic to run grow lights.  There's plenty of ice outside for water, if they would make use of the geothermal energy to melt it.

All things considered, life would have been immensely fucking *SHIT*, but there is a decided possibility that they could have survived this way. Especially since the stonework of their civilization SURVIVES MOSTLY INTACT into the modern era!!

BUT NO.  NO. The law of plot progression *MANDATES* that they all die horribly from frostbite and starvation.  Because the writers are FUCKING IDIOTS.

Oh yeah-- THE BEST PART--- one of their leaders is in telepathic contact with the modern era, and has visions of the future.  Does she bother to try to ASK the future how her civilization could be saved?  NO. OF COURSE NOT.

What a game must never have ... Difficulty settings

What "elite gamer" bullshit. Difficulty settings are there so that regular people, young people etc, can enjoy the game as well as harden gaming veterans. Finishing a game isn't a privilege of being "elite", it's a right afforded to people who paid for the product. GTFO with that shift that only worthy people can see the end of the story.
