Some women once told me the world was gonna roll me
Third round late he starts to tire
Open cut over his left eye
Smelling blood attack is relentless
In the back seats I see his girl cry
Cry, no mercy, no quarter
No place to hide for me and the man
Lefts and rights never came in harder
No mercy, take it while you can, now!
No mercy take it while you can

... Anyway I didn't want to turn it into a gender thing. It's not. I happen to have a preference and I was surprised to learn about it. Annnyway.

I dropped another half a pallet today but this time it came over the jack directly at me. I almost died and secretly wish I had but I didn't and I'm fine.

Why is everyone depressed?  I genuinely had a problem with this, because the internet seems like a meeting place for depressed people (I'm aware that depression might be skewing the results by way of ill-health and unemployment which mean that depressed people have more time to spend online than average, and other related phenomena).  I reasoned (for far too long) that since depression only affects about 1 in 5 people in the UK and everyone on the internet appears to feel as miserable and suicidal as I did, that they weren't depressed, so I wasn't depressed and it was just normal to feel like that. If I had known that suicidal ideation wasn't normal four or five years ago, I still would've had time to save my marriage, and I wouldn't now be even more depressed and suicidal than I was before!

I agree with Urist. Steampunk is like Darth Vader winning Holland's Next Top Model. It would be awesome but not something I'd like in this game.
Unfortunately dying involves the amputation of the entire body from the dwarf.

Yeah I think it does definitely fit into a venn diagram though. I was talking to a friend who was lamenting that dude subs know they're rare, and it tends to make them obnoxiously uppity.

And yes your sample size is bigger than mine, no doubt.
Pff. My sample size is equally pitiful. That's what resulted in me being taught to talk so non-threateningly. I'm happy to pass it on whether or not you feel like being a dick about it, because when I had it told to me I was absolutely a dick about it.

People who aren't depressed do not say that they are depressed, whilst people who are depressed say they are online, in places where there is no negative repercussion for saying so. Couple that with young people having higher rates of depression & higher rates of internet usage than the national average, you have both an increased perception of depression, amongst communities which already select for those most commonly associated with depression. There's also a cultural aspect of young people of today's world bonding over a shared desire to die but idgaf what is ironic or not anymore

There are plenty of people who aren't depressed who say they are depressed because they don't know what the word means.

Generally I think it is that depressed people shy away from the world around them but still retain a desire to interact with people and be acknowledged, so they use internet as an outlet (which also negates the negative impact of many common negative habits of depression sufferers). Internet and/or games also gives them frequent joy-hormone kicks which they use to self-medicate, not unlike a drug habit. In the case of games this also causes them to seek out communities around that interest, and such are generally internet based, causing a self-reinforcing presence on the web.

The "vocally depressed" is actually a very useful term to describe this phenomena

Agreed. IRL you would never know I suffer from extreme depression if I didn't tell you. Online is one of the few places I feel safe being a suicidal depressed edgelord when I feel that way. Those feelings get dealt with unhealthily if I don't direct them appropriately.

Would you guess as well that the younger generation isn't doing so well about being taught how to manage emotions and where to draw clinical conclusions about how they feel?
I'd guess they're doing a few orders of magnitude better than the older generations did, at least. They were pretty impressively shit at it, partially visible by how poorly the people they raised do at it. Stuff like widespread lead poisoning didn't help, heh.

Not doing so well is still pretty applicable for the younger'ns, though. Maybe another generation or two five and mental healthcare will be purged of its stigmas and/or actually funded and we'll be able to upgrade to doing middlingly well!
