Something very odd occurred today. A real mystery.
After lunch, on my windowsill, I found a partially melted chocolate-covered ice cream and rice krispy confection. My window is on the first floor, or for the linguistically depraved, one above ground level. Probably about fifteen feet or five metres up. Nobody in my household admits to having any memory of buying, holding, or unwrapping such a thing, and it isn't the sort of food anyone would eat on the sly. It appeared there after lunch, me having been next to it for the entire morning except half an hour for lunch. And I can't work out how it got there.
Our first thought was that it was our next-door neighbours, specifically the small children that number among them. But the throw would have been at an almost impossible angle: they'd have to have practically hopped over or onto the wall between us. The offending pudding is (was) almost next to the side of the deeply sunken window closest to them, meaning they'd have had to throw around a corner. None of their windows would do the trick, for similar reasons. So despite the obvious motive (what small child DOESN'T want to throw something through a window?) seems like it can't be them.
Also, it is Eid-Ul-Adha, apparently, bur there's no fasting and hence no motive for speedy removal of stealthily-eaten food. Besides, I think my neighbours might be practicing Hindus anyway (the mother is a Hindu, the father a Muslim, or maybe the other way round.)
The opposite neighbours have a very young child, certainly too weak to make the throw, which would have been Olympian in any case given that they would have had to propel a slippery ice cream over ten metres and past several obstacles into a very precise area. The carpark opposite has a much better angle, but anyone who can even see my windowsill must be twenty metres away at least, due to the awkward L-shape of the house. So that's a no, unless a local cricket player decided to really test their aim.
This just left our house's windows, someone inside the house, or maybe someone on our roof, who would have a clear shot. I toyed with the idea that it fell from a plane, but didn't see how it could get under the overhang.
The roof idea makes some sense, given the bit of insulation that was partially detached, when I looked out, but that could have happened months ago. And who would throw an icecream onto my windowsill from the roof? Very, very odd...
