You have a toaster you could conceivably liquefy metal in.
Now I want someone to try to liquefy metal in a toaster

EDIT: It took like 5 minutes for me to find the forum guidelines (seriously that should be placed somewhere else) and then after finding the thing I was looking for on it I then noticed "your ISP contacted". It says only in extreme circumstances, but I legitimately don't know which ones would be extreme enough for that

EDIT 2: I went on the solider plays storm silver thread and it just kept trying to scroll up for some reason, I even refreshed the page and it kept doing it

...Initially I'm horrified, but I'm also amazed that people *do* that.  Leaving their blinds open, I mean.

Even though I see that regularly.  There's a *super* fancy apartment complex near me, much better than mine, literally up on a hill.  And it's sorta remarkable how many of the windows are constantly uncovered, as I go for my walks (I love hills, also the nearby church).

I don't plan to mess with them regularly.  But... it might actually be fun to screw with one person's tv... just once.  Just to see that it's possible.

Even close acquaintances are often horrified when I see a situation and instinctively comment on how it could be exploited for evil.  Even when they know I worked in security for years.  They act like I'm out to exploit, when I'm simply instinctively seeking awareness of vulnerabilities.

I probably won't actually do it.  But hey, I got fired- maybe just once, harmlessly.  Just to see.  Maybe their security will improve.

I just like to let the sunshine in. :/ So much nicer than electric lights.

Important thing for young people:

Never let your employer know where you live. (aside from HR's requirements to employ you of course.)

I had an "agent of unscheduled overtime" come to beg me to work on my one day off this week. I will now work 7 days solid as a consequence of their scheduling bullshit.

Also, they do not pay incentive pay for this.

Even you could do it.
Put some Gallium in the toaster. Then heat it up to 30°C.
Or alternativly, freeze the toaster to about -30°C, put mercury in it, then heat it to normal temperature.

Both mercury and Gallium are metals.

Take some gallium. Put it in your hand and wait for it to melt.

You are now a toaster.

Instructions unclear. Genitalia are currently covered in molten gallium and stuck in toaster. Send help.

You said melt in toaster, not melt with toaster.

So I suggested 2 metals that you can melt in a toaster while it is unplugged.

A sticky post on the most-visited board of the forum sounds like the most reasonable place to put it. ISP being contacted in extreme cases is probably only done for seriously problematic ban-dodgers.

Pretty sure ISP being contacted would only be for like super illegal stuff.

Toaster why.

After years of using that thing, today I noticed how nonsensical it is. About 1/10th up its settings will toast bread, most toaster pastries, bagels... just about everything you have interest in toasting that will fit in a toaster. 2/10ths up will toast basically everything that doesn't. Anything over that leaves whatever you put in it a variable amount of charcoal, with only "mostly" burnt black stopping around 3/10ths and everything else after that leaving ash and hardened burnt whatever it was.

Which is 7/10ths of its setting range. A bit over 2/3rds of the appliance's capability is functionally useless, because if you use it what comes out isn't edible unless you're very desperate, don't buy into the medical findings that char can increase the risk of cancer, and can actually stand the taste of, say, half-charcoal bread.

And, like. Today it finally hit me. Why even build something like that? You have a toaster you could conceivably liquefy metal in. This is house-fire level overkill* for a kitchen appliance. Exactly what principle of device engineering lead to this being considered a good idea?

* Incidentally, what brought about me noticing was someone else in the house momentarily losing their mind and putting it about 2/3rds the way up. The fire alarms went off. Dunno if it actually caught fire 'cause I was in a different room, and for some ungodly reason the person it was cooked for decided to scrape like... half the piece of toast away and eat the still half-blackened remains... but. Yeah.

Some things need to be roasted intensively for just a tiny amount of time. For example, when you make roasted pickled getting, you only want it in there for a couple of seconds, so you need it to be really hot when you put them in.

This has always been a double wtf for me because in every share house I've lived in I have to play the game of remembering to turn the toaster back to toast setting because one of my house mates will have turned it back to full power since I last  used it.

That is because you can insert frozen garlic bread, or even frozen hashbrown wafers into the toaster on UBERTOAST, and it will come out fabulous.

That sure is weird/dangerous!
Though last I checked, what I read is that char isn't unhealthy. It has benefits like activated carbon maybe, it was actually outdoor grills which were carcinogenic... the lighter fluid or briquettes maybe. That was a while ago though.

Also wtf I'm not hung over. I don't remember the end of last night, but I woke up in bed as the crew knocked bright and early. Drove to a nice shady spot with some croissandwiches, listening to the radio, got a couple sci-fi novellas. The anticipation was really the worst part.

It's not even hot... yet.  Not looking forward to noon, especially with ac broken. But all will be well. Brought lots of water and unsweet tea.
