Yeah, in hindi, it's flower-cabbage and leaf-cabbage for cauliflower and cabbage

I'm pretty sure I'm nationally required to find Swedes the most superior veggie since you Englishfolks decided to go ahead and call them that.

Cauliflower is flower-cabbage in Dutch too

Meanwhile Finns just call it lanttu, a word with the same root as 'plant'. I think it's the most generic name for a foodstuff ever.

Complete culture shock again but in browsing the Ameripol thread and coming upon a link...
. . .
I feel kind of confused at the idea that >50% of surveyed folks given the link's data have trouble in geography. As in, how is this even possible? .-.;
Because I don't know how things are, outside of my locality. :/

Edited because of typos!

From what I understand, geography education in the US focuses more on the domestic than the global. Those people who couldn't find North Korea could probably find North Carolina, which I honestly don't think I could.

The only reason I would grow a Brassica is to attract pretty butterflies and watch little green caterpillars become enormous. As for geography, I couldn't tell you where each US state is (or English county for that matter) but I could tell you where pretty much every country is.

I'm eating a heap of various veggies right now. Homemade pasta salad and roast potatoes. Mm-mmm.

Also, on the subject, on the roadtrip I recently took with friends we ventured to the town most of us grew up in and discovered this freaky-looking fractal broccoli in the local supermarket. It was intense. Strangest-looking thing I can recall ever having seen in the vegetable section of a store. Apparently it tasted more-or-less like regular broccoli, but it looked fascinating.

Besides the whole "Geography education is so terrible in the US" is kind of more... manufactured complaint given that other countries teach Geography more like it was a trivia game. Just memorize the Continents, Countries, and Capitals and you are set.

Other countries such as?

In England, it's more of a focus on rivers and stuff, or urban development. Barely any locations at all.

Neo, you misunderstood (source: also British)

Focus on the process of river and other geographical feature formation, the effects of people on the geography, and the like. Pretty sure the last time I had to name a specific feature on a map, let alone a country, was in primary school.

That isn't the criticism leveraged against Americans.

The Criticism is that they don't know the trivia. Not that they don't know what an archipelago is.
