yeah that's my problem. I mean  Merriam-Webster definition 1.b, and people think I mean the worst form, totalitarianism. What we need is a separate word for the bad form, and preferably, one word for each definition.

It's called Stalinism.

There are a lot of types of communism. There is Marxism, Stalinism, Bolshevik communism (pre-Stalin), Market Communism, Cuban Comunism, Bolivarianism, it goes on. And then there is socialism, which also has a ton of types that I'm just not going to go into.

Both internet and cable(same provider, separate accounts) were out for some time today. It just came back on. My guess is that the company was fiddling around a bit.



Also saw two T-shirts at work with potentially violent Christian slogans on them. I convinced the manager to toss one away(it said "Pray or be Prey" in intimidating lettering), though he did put out the other, which had "† = ☮" on front, and a bible verse hinting that non-Christians be conquered on back.

To me, the "† = ☮" thing is implying that there will only be peace when there are only Christians (mathematically speaking, if † = ☮, then ☪ ≠ ☮, for example, because † ≠ ☪, although I feel that statement 1 is a faulty premise.) Combined with the verse apparently on the back, it seems to be recommending the, ahem, removal, shall we say, of non-Christian religious groups.

Bonus points if the intent of the shirt was a Jack Chick-esque "everything but fundamentalist American evangelism is not actually Christian".

It's funny, because I once watched an evangelical satanic panic video from the late 90's which condemned, among a very wide number of things, the ☮ due to an alleged ritual witnessed by a "former priest of the Church of Satan". According to him, the ☮ is a secret Satanic symbol which is spread in order to open people's hearts to the devil by tricking them into wearing it, and actually represents a cross that has had its arms broken downwards to symbolize Christ having never risen from the dead.

Hey, I remember that one! Having come from a mother (OH IS THAT SO REDWALLZYL) that has a problem with chain emails and gullability, I can attest to a large number of similarly absurd concepts. Everything from DnD to Cell Phones. Did you know those cause brain cancer in your baby if they are anywhere in the house? It's the radio waves.
