Apparently, the wrecks of several WWII warships have simply vanished from the ocean floor. Salvaging them would have required a major operation due to the depth that they were sitting at, and it seems all but impossible to have such a thing happen without being noticed.

Yeah, it's been in the news over here a few times now. It's most likely that they were scooped from the bottom by a specialized shipwreck salvaging crane, and transported to a relatively nearby ship scrapyard, where they have been processed into scrap metal. The last remaining part of one of the ships shows tell tale marks of the salvaging crane's ripper. The only ship in the area that could have done the job ofcourse denies ever having seen the Dutch vessels, but that's how things go around there. One shipwreck means two months employment for an army of metal scrappers.

Our prime minister has been trying to convey his disgust over defacing what we considered to be seamen's graves to the Indonesian government, but I don't think he got anywhere.
