Recently stumbled through Youtube and found myself watching a Starcraft Match...
I found myself wondering. Wow this guy is clicking like really fast. Then I remembered that apparently thats a good thing to do, APM and all that...
Now wondering if there is an RAPM. Or REDUNDANT actions per minute. I MEAN COME ON! Why do you need to click 100000 times to tell something to go at one location, why do you need to flash between the damn menus like you have an ADD syndrome suffering goldfish. Yes it makes sense late game that you need to do so as you flick through your multiple buildings to construct units.
BUT YOU HAVE 1 DAMN BASE AND JUST YOUR WORKERS! NOTHING NEW HAS HAPPED THAT NEEDS THE SWITCH CHECK!!!

This is the same thing as with CS:GO weapon inspection. Fuck, you don't need to do it at all, never, but you still do it because... I don't know. It helps ease the tension, makes  you feel like you're doing something, I guess? People don't even notice that (I run all the time inspecting my guns, to the point that with some of them it looks like I'm sprinting).

But I must say, that AoE2 has effectively made me nearly never click many times when I tell something to go somewhere because in that case the units would just recalculate the position and stop for a while to "process" and it was lost seconds. If they were in combat, those seconds were equal to sending an archery volley (Mayans/Britons ftw). This is why I am usually against micromanaging my armies if I don't need to.

Warlords Battlecry 3 is like that too, as there are only certain "sports" where units can turn and as a sprite based game they can only move in 8 directions.

Games (well, Steam) related WTF.

So, glanced at the store front the other day, with that recommended/look what's hot slider thing. I saw an advert for something called Minor/Major, a visual novel (whatever that could be, never played one of those), starring anthros, or at least there were two of them on the title picture. That did raise a few questions.
First, the fact that I immediately picked it out from all the chaff. Second, the fact that it turned up in my feed. Third, that I was mildly interested.

I suppose I am a sucker for anthros, but I can't think imagine how Steam could know that. I haven't been seaking it out on Steam, and I don't really telegraph it in general. It's a pretty minor interest of mine, and you know, internet. So just how do they know? Normally, they're pretty hit and miss. Wild stab in the dark, or can Steam read minds these days? Wouldn't surprise me.

Now I want to know what a visual novel is. Might even buy it and give it a go, if I see it dirt cheap in a sale sometime. Wonder what they'll recommend next? Vodka Tycoon 2017?

VNs are, uh. Novels which are visual. Primarily text, most of the time, with accompanying art et al. Sometimes some sort of gameplay component. Usually you'll get to make choices to change how the story plays out. Kinda' like old adventure games if you're looking for a game based western equivalent, just with more reading and less pixel hunting. Incidentally one of the primary genres for game based porn, just as a heads up.

Yeah, VNs make me go "WTF." They're basically choose-your-own-adventures with people taking off their clothes and doing... things.

That's not to say I didn't finish the one I bought. All three main paths. I just think it could be a bit more tempered in its' acitons. That being said, all humans could learn to be a bit more thoughtful in their actions. It's what ensures our survival, after all.

It's probably worth noting one of the more well known (and legitimately high quality) VNs involves screwing what's more or less something out of the cthulhu mythos.

I hear that the idea is that it's like footwork, even if you're not doing anything useful you will be much more responsive if you fidget around. If you actually take the time to analyze things you will have a tendency to freeze and not utilize your precious seconds, which is worse than acting on instinct.

Always find having at least one non-short fingernail is really useful, though, so long as yours aren't brittle or anything. Like having a small knife on call at all times. Though yeah, as long as they're not abnormally flimsy nails can actually get pretty tough. If you're relatively careful with how you use your hands it's pretty easy to keep them from breaking. And that's not getting into the artificial stuff.

This. We need a new fashion for the utility nail, a single semi-long fingernail (maybe ~4-5mm of growth beyond the finger) for general-purpose use. Nothing better for separating out those filmy plastic bags in the produce section, for one.

Oh, those! Hm, never played one of those, might like to sometime. Thanks for the heads up, but I'm generally fine with porn, provided they tell you in advance and that they've put some effort into it.

I rather liked Choose-Your-Own-Adventures, can't complain about the rest. Fascinating, might be worth a go. Of course, with that little margin, I imagine there's a lot of VNs that are rubbish, but still, the format rather appeals to me. Worth trawling through.

Alright, Steam advert AI, it worked, I got interested, might buy it some day and even talked with these gentlemen about it. But don't let it go to your head.
