The giveaway was "their regular doctor" rather than just "their doctor", implying there's a non-regular doctor, i.e. ChairmanPoo.

Both, actually. I'm a specialist to which people get referred  to, but currently in a non-permanent position, filling in because the usual one is away.

There is some talk about hiring me somewhat longer term, considering the disproportionate volume we get at our consult compared to the size of the hospital,  but I'm somewhat skeptical as to the actual odds of the hospital board being willing (or able) to add me to a more permanent rooster (mind you, it would be a smart move on their part: there are specialist shortages in my home region, and finding someone willing to come here is not exactly usual... so in their place I'd consider keeping an extra guy in the rooster if only to avoid problems during holidays) .

Wouldnt be bad for me, either. Long term ideally I'd like a larger place with more resources, but I'd consider something medium term part-time while I do other stuff
