Speaking of hard drives, apparently that whole research on storing data on crystal lattice is going nicely. Not too long from now and we'll have super dense data storage that is basically immune to the kind of heat any normal computer can produce and doesn't decay like normal hard drives. The only problem is making that kind of tech affordable :v

But ye, chances are that, if we die horribly, there's going to be enough info about us left that any specially inquisitive aliens will be able to basicaly get to know about the entirety of human history, including porn, since each tiny crystal disk can apparently store up to 360 terabytes of data.

And it doenst require any special software to read the info, since its stored using binary, so you can read it as long as you have the right hardware.

Now we know. They destroyed all like on this planet because they created that."

I discovered today that "Delete"-ing a file on my computer doesn't actually get rid of it, just puts it in the Trash.

Today I lowered the used space on my hard drive by 23%.

Sweet bus :o

How long have you been using computers? just curious
I've been using them since I was like five

I... I just didn't realize that until now, my hard drive never filled up like this before
I'd wager you used to have your bin set to autodelete files.
Also things get automatically deleted from the bin once its get too full as well.

Also in other WTFs...

My Avast apparently bloated up to taking up... 2 gigabytes.
I have no idea how nor why.

Quick question; since coming back to windows 10, have you tried playing any videogames? Get any weird graphical glitches like one object being visible through another, opaque object?

I've tried updating my graphics drivers and all that. No dice, already got the latest version and if its not compatible with windows 10 I'll be waiting for a while.

Videogames work fine here on my win10 with gtx 460. Aside from the limitations of the card etc not being able to run games with higher requirements. IIRC I had to reboot a couple times to get windows' automatic driver installing stuff to finish before I could mess with them myself, but I'd expect anyone who had w8.1 to already know about that since it did the same thing.

I played League of Legends and found out the update broke my driver, which out me in the pleasant position of moving around to dodge LeaverBuster at 11 FPS while tabbing out to find solutions and reinstall my driver + chipset, all to the tune of "REPORT JHIN AFK". I also had to deal with ping spiking to 2000 MS before I disabled automatic updating.

My guess would be that it hadn't installed the real driver yet.

You must have missed Microsoft making the update opt-out :P.

(No, I'm not joking, opt-out updates really were scheduled this week for basically every single Windows 7/8/8.1 user)

[trash bin and delete]
The answer is clearly to always shift-delete files like I do.  Skips the trash bin entirely.

It also is FUN when you shift-delete a personal dwarf fortress mod you built up since early 2008 and forgot to check to make sure the copy in the folder you are deleting is indeed the un-updated copy from last decade. And that you didn't mix them up.  But I did get to learn that df handles RAWS made for 0.23 quite well.   They don't work of course, but df didn't explode either.

Speaking of cars, the game Omnibus is offering an actual bus for its special-collectors-gibbon thing.
So excited for that. It's gonna be the major videogaming event of 2016.

Got a game I've been plunking away at for ~2 years; today I found a function literally called mystery_function(). It's not referenced anywhere. All it does is call another function (that has never existed) and adds it to the event log (which it does wrong). I swear past-me is doing this on purpose.
