Being home alone, I decided to go chill in the garage and blast my favourite album.
Unfortunately either I was more tired than I realised or the couch I was sitting on was far too comfortable, since before long I dozed off and slept for, I don't know, at least a couple of hours. Annoyingly enough that was on the first half of the tape, too, so I missed out on my favourite track.

I did have an amusing moment where, as I was first starting to nod off during a quiet part, a sudden blast of volume scared the shit out of me and woke me up with a start, but after that I just full on fell asleep. If only I could remember what, if any, dreams I had.

Since I listen to podcasts when going to sleep, when I get to the point of sleep where you're halfway there but still lucid enough to notice the outside world, what the people say gets twisted into my dreams, it's weird.

DotA itself was worse, and also what basically killed one of the most prolific and impressive player content creation communities the world has seen.

Uh. No? It didn't kill anything, hell people were still making maps for Warcraft in 2015 last time I checked. High quality maps, even (turn and grid-based battles a la Heroes 5? Oh yea), and a lot of people have finally stopped "protecting" (DONUTSTEEL) their maps, so now people can hope to steal re-use much more content than before.

I've always remembered liking this cheesy pop song (or at least its chorus) as a kid and just assumed it was from the 90s, but it turns out it was released in 2005. I'm not sure if this discovery makes me feel old or young or confused or what.

Oh well, at least I worked out what song it was. Good thing the one line I remembered was part of the title...

This is actualy kinda common. Like, when you were a kid, have you never experienced a moment in which you're talking to someone on your dream, only to have that person's voice to shift in both words and tonality to the voice of whoever is waking you up in the morning? Outside input can actualy interfere with dreams. People who also sleep with the TV on also often experience it. Its (supposedly) not that healthy since it interferes with REM sleep, which is (also supposedly) pretty important for your brain.

General interest and overall involvement in the scene took a sharp nosedive shortly after it became a notable PitA to play anything that wasn't DotA.

From where I was playing (Garena, mostly), DotA bots were firmly segregated in their own little huge ghettos, apart from the places which hosted custom games that weren't DotA. There were even little places for Tower Defence maps specifically.

I guess that was not the case for the official servers, but in the less-official places, finding non-DotA maps was, in fact, as easy as clicking a single button.

Yes. It was very popular in the 50's and 60's Europe when being "educational" could get a movie around countries' strict moral codes. So you'd have two people going at it in the usual fashion while a dry athenburian voiceover explained to the viewer how intercourse works.
