I have no idea how anyone plays that game when the community's bad and the company that makes it is so much worse.

Did you know: League of Legends' entire early success can be attributed to Riot and its parent company using its resources to shut down the main Dota forum (and promise and archive, which didn't show up until over a year after the promise), plagiarize unusued hero concepts from that forum, slander Icefrog and present themselves as a sequel to Dota?

Even their goddamn subreddit knows it and they're still the most popular game in the world, it's a travesty.

They built their entire success on attempts to destroy a man's life, what the fuck do you want??

the only way i manage to stay just barely on this side of sanity is by keeping it from somehow becoming "dota vs lol" instead of just "riot bad"

seriously, making it politics makes it seem like some sort of loyalty to a game i don't even play anymore rather than just disliking a company for much the same reason i dislike EA or ubisoft or king

It probably has a fanfic behind it. And if it doesn't, a fanfic inspired it at some point.

Some of it probably does, but splatoon porn is just generally pretty prolific. It's really not even that surprising, considering the game's elements.

And nah, DotA2's about as bad, community wise. DotA itself was worse, and also what basically killed one of the most prolific and impressive player content creation communities the world has seen.

I think WC3's map scene was sorta dying anyway... I remember near the end of my playing it, it was already a bit emptier than normal. But yeah, Dota flooding the whole thing accelerated its demise greatly. And the community, holy hell, skill-based matchmaking is an absolute godsend for communities. This is why I don't think any LoL mods for Dota 2 will ever take off, no matchmaking = toxic²

what was it again, they required you to buy the game?? even though you've already paid for stuff??

it was very weird, which is too bad since HoN is way in the spirit of Wc3 maps, it starting as a straight-up dota clone (with permission IIRC) and branching out from there in weird directions
