I am aware that people believe that, and specifically, people in power, but, the site doesn't seem that trustworthy. But, according to Amazon, they're a TON of Rey merchandise.

Blatant clickbait/manufactured propaganda. Leaving aside the heavy use of "unnamed sources", SR2001 has the right of it. On amazon's first page of returns for ("star wars" AND "the force awakens" AND "action figures") we've got 24 results. Of those:

+4 are bundles which include both Rey and other major characters.
+3 are bundles which include major characters but not Rey.
+2 are bundles with only minor characters.
+5(!) are Rey alone.
+3 are Kylo Ren alone.
+1 is Finn alone.
+1 is Poe alone.
+1 is Luke alone.
+2 are Captain Phasma alone. (She also appears in three of the bundles; Leia appears in one).
+2 are minor characters alone.

So Rey alone is in (using that as a representative sample) 37.5% of the action figure sales for a film with five new main characters and four returning main characters. 25% of action figure sales also contain one or more other female characters.

Bull. Shit.

Quantify that? Are you glancing at a shelf once or actually bothering to check thoroughly? Because if there is a disparity there, it's something going on either with that retail chain or with that specific store (and might not even be intentional, given how recent the release was and the joys of waiting for shipments). The prices for the Rey figures are on par with equivalent toys (which would not be the case if they were much more limited in number), and she's the only one I've seen who even got a die-cast run. The article was trying to claim that Lucasfilm/Disney explicitly told the manufacturers to not make Rey merch, which is blatantly and provably false.
