That's gelatin.  Or Jello.

Jam contains fruit pulp, jelly does not.

Eehh... there's roughly three, maybe four, major fruit spread words I'm faintly aware of, at the very least in my part of the US. In descending order of usage frequency, there's jelly, which is jam without the nibbly fruit-bits in it, jam, which is jelly with nibbly fruit-bits in it, preserves, which is more or less jam taken to the next level, and occasionally marmalade, which is... something to do with oranges, iirc. I mostly know it as "that one fruit spread I don't eat".

We also have that linked sort of jelly, of course, we just usually call it jello (or the particular makings name) :V Sometimes with pudding stuck on the end.

Or just straight up gelatin. Or a few other things. The wobbly stuff comes in a lot more names. Stuff in the fridge right now calls itself parfaits.

Cheap-ass Chinese CFL bulb burst into flames in a lamp while I was watching Spaceballs with my folks. A Merry Christmas in the form of mercury-laced smoke, I suppose.

EDIT: WTF: I hate American language conventions, like when they say 'jelly' when it is 'jam' but I always use American spelling, such as meter, center, stuff like that.
It's funny because they're actually correct in this case... or well, less wrong than usual, anyway.
Jelly is basically just jam with the fruit bits and seeds removed during the process of making it. I will still call jelly jelly though, because I would rather be a bit confused from time-to-time than have my entire worldview crumble around me. :P

I think the bigger issue is how complex the fruit spread business is.  Jelly, Jam, Preserves, Marmalade...

I got a general rule with hanging out with people I meet online and that is that they need to at least be the age of consent so that... I don't get weird looks.

Which I thought was 18 but turns out it is 16 O_o

Not sure if I should elaborate... or just leave it like that because it is funnier.

Remember that VTO stuff a bit back?  Turns out there was an exploit with certain scripts that caused them to still load the page and just had the Jurrassic Park reference on the top of the screen instead of blocking the whole page.

The administration is now apparently emailing abusers telling them that they are locked out and in the email it tells people how many times the page has been accessed by the particular person in the last 24 hours.  (apparently they can still access the page, but VTO won't show for them)

People again, complained about being locked out, and how unfair it is, but the chat rooms ended up with different people comparing numbers.   Highest number I saw somebody screenshot was 4600 page hits.  So that person alone reloaded the page over four thousand times in twenty four hours.  And they have no reason to load the page when they are off shift so it's probably closer to 8 or 9 hours.

I don't know whether to WTF or be impressed.

On topic: Jelly.

So am I one of those Americans you would be ashamed of? :P  I not only thought jelly and jam were the same thing, I also thought pretty much everything like that was meant to go on a sandwich with peanut butter and not much else.
