Spoiler: Perhaps a Related WTF? (click to show/hide)
Perfect for the laugh thread.

Seems my memory of that thread is indexed under "Capitalism" as that word is the first to come to mind when I think of the thread. ???

Ok so I am watching "Mission: Magic!" which basically is... Think Magic School Bus except the Teacher is a witch and she takes the class to magical places instead of science adventures.

So there is an adventurer club...

And I saw the first episode and in spite everything (Honestly watch an episode it is so weird... it is kind of worth the look) was: "I actually think a real life location miiight be more valuable then these magical locations"

I mean it isn't like they have to learn customs, skills, or even culture. HECK the very first thing they do in "The land of Backwards" is immediately make it go forward.

They might as well stayed home.

Also GOODNESS is the "Token Black Kid" EXTREMELY "Token Black Kid"... I mean big lips, lanky, Afro, and he constantly complains about how tall he is. I mean it is the 1960s so people who did look like this existed... but WOW!

Also that DANG laugh track plays no matter what... I am REALLY glad cartoons don't have laugh tracks anymore.

I honestly can't remember a single cartoon that used laugh tracks, unless it was to make a joke about laugh tracks. Which cartoons are you thinking of?

You need REALLY REALLY OLD cartoons to get laugh tracks

Classic Scooby Doo I THINK had one...

But Josie and the Pussycats definitely had one.

Also
-Flintstones
-Jetsons

As an aside: I actually forgot how good the Jetsons are... I watched the first episode again and it actually is still pretty good. Heck it oddly enough didn't age as much as I thought it would (Though the "Tapes" becomes a hilarious instance of anachronism turning the Jetsons into kind of a funny 'this is the 60s version of the future')

Ugh, motherboard is getting worse. Now it almost invariably locks up just loading the desktop. Spent most of my morning opening it up and blowing the dust out, since the most likely problem is a combination of dust and cold.

Unfortunately, I nearly broke the RAM and RAM slots during this process. Took me three tries to reseat it properly.

I can't wait for my next pay period(this weekend), where I'll either be ordering upgrades or screaming at my manager to find out why my money is not on my debit card.

My [INSERT MULTIPLE EXPLETIVES AND/OR DEROGATORY TERMS HERE] housemate never fucking shuts up.
I can hear his irritating voice any time I'm not in my room with headphones on blasting music. He just goes on and on about nothing at all. He could talk about anything and piss everyone off in the process. He always acts as though everyone's hanging off his every word. He cuts people off and cracks stupid jokes, and he even does this when others are trying to concentrate on something- when someone's watching a film he will stumble in and start giggling inanely at whatever they're watching, for example.

Oh, that's another thing: he giggles. That sounds like the most annoying thing imaginable, but somehow his usual speech is worse.

It's like white noise. It will probably wind up driving me berserk unless I get headphones with better noise cancelling or something.

What happens if someone tells him to shut up?

I'm not sure. I am a very non-confrontational person so I'm not about to try and find out. ...Yet.
Besides, the guy lives in the room next to mine. If I told him to shut up that would probably cause a fair bit of tension. Once the initial rush of sheer glee stemming from telling this mindless shitstain what I think of him wore off, said tension would probably make my life even more miserable. I think a better solution would be to simply buy some decent speakers for my room so I can play music without hurting my ears with headphones.

Edit: One time someone insulted him (quite warranted, he was making fun of someone else at the time) and he went silent for a moment, then chose to wilfully misunderstand what was said and take it as a compliment, before carrying right on being a douche. I don't think a simple "shut up" would do much to stop the flow of verbal diarrhoea.

So I think the UK has beat everyone in biggest overreaction now. If this is actually a thing that happened over yonder.

To be fair, this is the situation they're looking for:
Quote
Recent months have seen increasing numbers of children cases coming before the Family Division and the Family Court where there are allegations or suspicions: that children, with their parents or on their own, are planning or attempting or being groomed with a view to travel to parts of Syria controlled by the so-called Islamic State; that children have been or are at risk of being radicalised; or that children have been or at are at risk of being involved in terrorist activities either in this country or abroad.

"Spy software" used against students?  That was in my high school *before* 9/11, it's part of managing a computer lab.  Didn't really stop people from installing kazaa and downloading porn, but that was the intent.  Expecting private browsing in a school computer lab is ridiculous.

The only disturbing point is the optional lack of transparency in the process...  Which can still be justified when dealing with active terrorist recruitment, but has a potential for abuse.

So yeah, predictable overreaction.

Very much exactly. You have to be very moronic to expect privacy on a school computer lab. In fact, if I had kids, I wouldn't send my kids to a school that gave them privacy on any kind of business like that.

I don't think its so much expecting privacy as expecting something that isn't terrible. Apparently the software involved used 'password' as a legit security default.
