In my school, we place bets on who of the usual latecomers will be the next to arrive. Cue cheers from the winners and curses from the losers as the suddenly very confused students show up.

I usually arrive early and then fall asleep so I have no idea how latecomers are greeted.

In my school, we spend the first few minutes of class organizing sports and feats of strength that any late student must compete in before they are allowed to sit down.

Anyone who'd left their computer logged in from yesterday got a random new desktop picture when they showed up the next day in my previous cisco class.
Which isn't really related to latecomers as much as forgetful people, I guess.

My Programming Lecturers get us to point and laugh at anyone who turns up late.

In most of my classes, latecomers are greeted with applause and cheers. The later, the louder. Especially during exams (wait, that's all the time. Another one for this thread...), when there are eighty to a hundred people in the room.

This is how it is in smaller classes where I am, but in bigger ones they are generally ignored. The professor doesn't really care either way unless they're coming 35 minutes in to a 50 minute class or some bullshit like that.

My teacher gives the whole class Fs if someone doesn't turn in their assignment. He smiled when I asked if I can have one more day to finish one. Yeah, sadistic teachers do exist.
