... neo's speculating based on the stated history in the article, presumably. Long term substance abuse plus chronic depression and an unknown learning disability can be associated with some rather unusual behavior. Don't really know enough about the history involved to extend that sort of assumption, though. Person could have been a pretty calm depressive drug user. It happens.

I've known people with all of those things, I've been one of them, I really don't think that's enough to say that your parents need to take guardianship.  The only reason they're claiming in incompetence in this situation is because that is literally the only way they can claim to have any authority in this situation.

You misspelled seance.  Are possessing Draignean?  Are you actually a ghost in the shell? You have to tell us if you are, that's the rule

Probably! Was likely just the avenue they used to try to butt in. S'just that we don't actually know, and the person in question having pretty severe trouble getting along would be a pretty simple explanation for the why of the parental involvement at that age. Article gives no mention of how bad the previous history was, whether the involvement to that degree was normal, etc., etc., etc.

E: Though, that said, I've seen cases where sufficiently severe depression and/or drug use has resulted in being placed under guardianship. It can definitely reach the point you're no longer really capable of making your own decisions to the extent required to maintain legal control over yourself.

I was basically saying we don't know. The article is more concerned with making a punchy headline then actually reporting on what is actually happening.

It is entirely within the realm of possibility and not a stretch in the least that the 48 yo really is crazy.

And frankly if the 48 year old really wants to get the operation he can no matter what his parents say, he just has to go in for psychiatric testing to prove he is of sound mind and body.

It is also possible the 48 yo is a perfectly healthy individual at the moment and overcame all the hardships in life and his parents still have this power over him due to an abuse of legislature.

I can't be outraged over a situation I can't take at face value.

You need to practise outrage more, then. When you get good enough, you can get outraged at everything.

Those waxing strips aren't lying about how long your hair should be before you use them. Ow.

It barely took off any hair and just left me red, sticky, and sore.

While we're shoving the chunks of Europe that Europe rubbed off onto N. America when they last hugged, can we tell the Pacific Plate to take Oregon, Washington, and California back? We don't want them anymore.

You'll take washington over my dead body. Only place in this bloody country with decent weather.

Cali's pretty alright in a bunch of places, too. Also a lot of people there, so we'd need to put them somewhere else. Would be giving up too much GDP to let those ones go.

Oregon... they can have oregon. Is there even anyone living there anymore?
