Oh yeah, reddit was shitting itself over that a couple of days back. It's basically just extending the laws against emotional abuse etc. to specifically cover the internet. I think it's a good thing. Most people don't give a damn.
The only parties to vote against it were Labour and NZ First. NZF voted against it because National voted for it, and Labour voted against it because Labour is currently a disorganised mob and the only reason they're still around is inertia.
The Greens, Act, and Maori parties all agreed on it, which is a fair indicator that this legislation is reasonable and not another anti-smacking bill.

You do realize that it's already a thing in Murrica?
For a country that is really big on the anti-bullying thing, this seems like a natural progression. I don't really have any opinions on it but all I can say is that despite this place being vaguely homophobic, the laws seem to have done a good job stopping me from getting, y'know, beaten to death.
