The atomic bombs come under greater scrutiny because it was so late in the war and Japan was already dead - they just didn't want to admit it, along with mostly-groundless conspiracy theories that the only reason they were used was to intimidate Stalin.

While they definitely weren't used JUST to intimidate Stalin, it is a fact - nuking of Japan was the opening act of cold war. There are analysis out there, both mid- and post-war, how nukes might have been unnecessary. How Japan was so far on the brink of the collapse that all it needed was wait. Case in point, the pacification of perceived "fanatical" Japanese population went relatively smoothly, despite their god-like Emperor delivering the speech in archaic hard-to-understand Japanese over frequently interrupted radio waves. Of course, at this point this is all left to speculation. It has to be admitted, nukes did shorten the war. It was a decision between possible massive American casualties and subjugation the Japanese through use of massive firepower. BUT it wasn't just a strategic decision but also a political one. By that time it was obvious Soviets will eventually engage the Japanese. Not wanting to have a Berlin°2, Americans decided to end this quickly.

So Windows started yelling about how I was out of drive space and should think about cleaning stuff up. So I run Windirstat and I see this 45 GB <unknown> spot. Check windows restore points and it turns out that they had saved 45 GB of restore points (for reference the partition is about 350 GB). WTF windows?

(It's not even like they really do anything; windows restore is notorious for breaking bootcamp partitions, so it's not like I use it for backups. Well, now I have 45 more GB to fill with games!)

Found a red stain on my underwear. The color and shape indicates something either highly embarassing or highly worrisome, yet I found traces of neither on myself. I'm pretty sure that it wasn't there when I put them on, and there was nothing on my pants to indicate an external source. Where the hell did that stain come from?
