More that fanfiction has raised by standard of quality for literature.  Despite the general opinion being that it lowers it.
Counter argument: 50 Shades of Gray.

Isn't that also an argument against the quality of published books as well, though? Sorta cancels itself out.

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.

You mean 'from' as in 'in front of' or as in 'off of it'?

There are plenty of freelancing websites out there, but the quality of such "jobs" can often be, erm, suspect.

The other day, I mention the idea of having a casual conversation with a (female) student, and my supervisor goes completely apeshit, saying I'm forbidden contact with students, using the false accusations made against me nearly a year ago as the reason. I assume that my manager tried to help me, but it came out as though she regarded me as some kind of drone that exists only to work to death.

I'm relly sick of this, sick of paying for soneone else's crime, being treated like shit even by people who know damn well what happened.

Coincidentally, does anyone know if/what the statute of limitations is on filing a discrimination suit?

Akura, having known your predicament (you stated you were framed before, or very badly misinterpreted)...isn't there someone with authority that you could appeal to, to rectify the mistake that occurred? :-\ A black mark on your reputation that you did not deserve is a badly harrowing thing.

I only ever had one job offer that was legitimate.

But it was from someone who basically didn't have the money to pay me and was like "yeah, if I make money I can pay you", I mean he was a dear friend so I was willing to put the work in. But I still would prefer some actual money.

There IS a lot of garbage in fanfiction to wade through.  But yea, there are legitimately good ones too...  So it brings up the bar if you don't proportionally factor in the garbage.

What Fanfiction has sort of done is allow fiction that explores setting and characters to sort of come into being a bit more often.

Rather then fiction that has an interesting premise, setting, or characters... but having them be the backdrop to whatever stupid crud the author is trying to do.

Some of the things I find for Pathfinder are very strange. Early-age firearms and steampunk, to a degree, are one thing. But straight-up Sci-Fi, In my D&D?

Even if it weren't for the complete lack of balance, I doubt I'd be able to find a DM that would allow that type of stuff in.
Damnit, now I want to play a character with a chainsaw.
