Well no they keep cutting education funding because it is something that the typical voter doesn't see and is something that they don't care enough to make a fuss about.

The fact that "Lowering Taxes" is an actual platform speaks volumes to how sophisticated the average voter is who sort of wants to have their cake and eat it too. As they never think about HOW their taxes are going to be lowered...

I coasted through high school. Took all the easy classes because being in school was very painful for me.

I just wish I had put more work into math, of course, the advanced math teacher apparently was sexually harassing my sister and she dropped out of calc because of it. Later, he got a student pregnant so maybe advanced math wasn't a good idea.

No, no, they want to do away with public education and send all the children who use it to privately run jails. It's much more profitable like that.

I actually missed the maximum amount of allowed days, so I didn't even show up half the time. ANd even then I would sometimes skip out halfway through or not show up until way later.

And yet we still have a pretty high failure rate...

... but yeah, it's usually pretty terrible and, in retrospect, terribly easy, but it's also inflicted on usually-too-many-at-a-time kids right in the middle of the throes of hormone apocalypse on subjects they care little for (and are incredibly difficult to make interesting due to time/resource/capability restraints on teachers).

It's understandable why so many have such problems...

High school was awful.
I rarely showed up, and when I did I was usually late and had to go through that excruciating moment of showing up outside the classroom as everyone else was already inside, watching and (I assumed) laughing at me. Also those bastard teachers tried to make me wear blue pants. Blue pants. And no, not jeans, apparently those weren't school uniform. Bah.

I'm a current high school student, and I consider it an unusual day if I'm there for more then four hours.  Five, sometimes.  Six, no.  The full day?  What kind of person do you think I am to waste that much time?

My education was mostly informal, but to say I didnt learn anything is a stretch.  I had great social fun/learning.  And it gave me direction.  And then told me it was too expensive to give that direction to me in any great depth.

  The single defining moment of high school education was when the AP teacher told me she couldn't find any evidence to support the books claim, and when she then told me she wouldn't provide me with the materials to look myself.

Am I the only one here who went to a halfway decent high school? Everything generally went smoothly as far as troublemaking went, the faculty and staff were engaged and competent, and the community at large was willing to continue renewing and even expanded the school levy in my senior year (due in part to the aggressive campaigning the district engaged in, even asking students to help.) Our attached middle school was... another story, but I attended a Catholic school until the 9th grade so I dodged that particular bullet. It had its own problems, mostly budget related, but it just doesn't compare to the things going on at the public middle school.

I like to think school is fairly alright. Obviously, it has all the issues of public schools, but the teachers are excellent.

If it's what I think it is, it's Accelerated Placement. Basically it's a harder-than-standard class for the grade level that either gives you more points on your GPA or college credits, depending on school, grade, and school system.
